Couch Information
No couch currently available for surfing. N.B.
This summer 2008 I will be travelling during August and the first week of September too. It will be then not possible for me to host during that period!
PLEASE NOTE THIS
As Milano is (surprisingly) pretty much requested as a CS destination, I try to host people who's close to my CS concept of hospitality (getting to know each other, spending a bit of time together, writing before and introducing ourselves, organizing CS events together). Please, please, please, take a bit of time to read through my profile and try to understand if you feel like I can be a good host for you... must admit I don't actually like so much last minute calls and "just need a place to crash" request...
_______________________
I live in the northern area of the city; it is a quiet and green area, easily reachable with the public transportation both from the city center and from the central station. I live alone, but I have often friends visiting me. I have 2 couchs, both of them can become comfortable beds and are in a separate room than my bedroom. I don't have pets (but I love cats and hopefully I'll have one soon living with me) and I sometimes smoke (depends on the periods of my life), but I can do it on my balconies. And, if you don't mind about this, sometimes I'd burn incense. I have blankets (or sleeping bag, on winter time) and towels, in case you need them. You can access the Internet here, when I don't use it, as I have a quick connection and a flat rate. When I make the laundry, no problem, in case you need, to add some of your clothes, so that you can have them clean and washed. And, last but not least, I have a bike so, when I don't use it, you're more than invited to ride around the city (alotugh it is a sort of adventure in Milano), as I support this way of travelling around (http://wiki.couchsurfing.com/en/Milan#Milan_CS_bike_sharing_project)!
Here in the city of Milano you can actually find whatever you look for: parks, fun, art, culture, food, etc... I should mention that I am often busy at work during the week, and sometimes wake up very early in the morning to go to school, so you should also consider this... but then, you'll have fully days to visit the city!:) And I'd like very much to show my city to my guests and go around together with them, according to my daily timetable at work (but weekends are free!:). And I'd like to cook for you, best would be a cooking recipe's sharing, one night it's me, one night it's you cooking. I don't have problems with sleeping, excepts when I have a busy day at work after. Best then would be weekends.
I'd ask you to leave a sign and memory of your staying in my flat, as I inaugurate a CS's corner, just close to the couches, where you can stick on the wall a pic, a card, or whatever is about you. Plus, I have a blackboard in the bath/toilette, if you get bored while you sit there, you can write or draw a coloured message on that!:)
I think the best it would be when you start with a couple of days in my flat, then we could decide together whether if is a good idea to go on with it or not. Friends (134)

My first CS year has arrived.. time to say: thank you CS as you brought so much in my life, so many experiences, so many nice people, and most of all a special-special person... :)View all 208 photos
Personal DescriptionI'm very interested into cultural differencies, as cultures are the various faces of the earth. I can be very extrovert and outgoing, but there are also clouds and shadows inside me. My favourite color in this period of my life is dark green; it used to be before dark blue.
The cities in my heart, as they represent different stages in my life, are Leiden (Netherlands), Nürnberg (Germany) and Oporto (Portugal). The cities where I'd like to live in case I have next lifes are Berlin (definitely!), Stockholm (possible the most beautiful city ever visited) and Sevilla (the biggest surprise so far). Part of my family comes from Calabria, part from Venice (and I go there in the memory of my dear granpa at least once a year), part from Lodi. There is then Milano, of course. It is my Ur, my origin and my roots (according to Heidegger, I should say: my destiny; but this sounds a bit too much!;). I love&hate Milano, as it probably represents fairly well my good&bad sides.
I believe there is something sacred in some places (which I can feel into old churches or natural sites), but I'm not religious.

I like then to organize events and cultural initiatives here in Milano, like sightseeing, exhibitions, etc... I mean, getting to know international people is one of the main aims and delights in my life. Travelling as well. I already hosted several friends on my couches and visited others in their countries; so, why not making this with new friends?CouchSurfing ExperienceI've been often travelling asking hospitality to friends around Europe. I think that's the best way to do it. Now I've been 2 times in Berlin couchsurfing, then Bucharest, Cinque Terre and Denmark (and soon in Portugal together with Valeria). Will be soon somewhere else around Europe and looking forward this. And, of course, I often have guests on my couches. UPD It is such an amazing experience to host international people in my place (more than 40 so far, August 2008!:)InterestsI guess I can be only very general here, you can find more in my profile, in case you are interested: politics (left, deeply left, inspired by Foucault&Deleuze&Mike Davis mainly, but opened and interested in confronting and sharing discussions and ideas), music (below), travelling (a quick view on my trips here on my profile), art (as a journalist, also), culture, fun (I wish I could be an hop hop dancer in another life), girls&women (I mean, we're supposed to be sincere in here, isn't it? Well, this is so far one of my main interests in life!;). UPD Should add now that since some time already, also my girlfriend is definitely one of the hits in my life!:)Philosophy"Wonder and curiosity towards the world and the being. Being amazed by this, here is where philosophy begins." (Aristotle)
In order to explore and discover a city, what I usually like is to get lost into its streets&districts. As Walter Benjamin said:
"Not to find one's way about in a city, is of little interest, but to lose one's way in a city, as one loses one's way in a forest, requires practice." ("Non sapersi orientare in una città' non vuol dir molto. Ma smarrirsi in essa come ci si smarrisce in una foresta, è una cosa tutta da imparare.")
"Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict
myself. I am large, I contain multitudes."" (W. Whitman)
"I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way" (J. Rabbit)
"Videogames do not influence kids. I mean, if Pac-Man influenced our generation, we were all jumping in dark rooms, chomping pills and listening to electronic repeating music." (K. Wilson, Nintendo Inc. 1989)
"And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."(F. Nietzsche)
Sorry, I just have these others in italian:
I apologize in advance for that, but I'm very curious!:)
Then, of course, I can answer to all the questions you want about my city, my people and my life.
I like sharing through food&music&talking&walking around together. Don't want to sound arrogant (I'm definitely not, trust me!;), but I know quite well my city, its history&urban geography and the best places where you can find what you look for.

One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneEPIOSODE I
I've probably lost 250 euros in the bankomat machine because I was reading the newspaper and I forgot to take the money with me. This happened one hour ago, and I'm still pissed with myself because of this. Now I have to wait to days two know if somebody took my money away and I lost the money!
Thanks God, sort of things like this are not happening very often...
PS
But, in the end nobody took my money from the bankomat and I saved the money... gosh&pfui, this is going to be my lucky year!:)
By I keep going on sometimes forgetting things around, friends say my head is sometimes into clouds... :)
EPISODE II
This is not up to me, but to an amazing pigeon. I was waiting for a CS guest from Australia in the train station, had my jacket on, as it was lunch break and I came directly from school. The train was late and had to stand and wait there... 'til this bird was shitting right on my head and jacket! Damned pigeon, and I even have just 2 jackets (as I wear them just for school when I'm teaching, but together with flip flop sometimes, as a philosophy teacher is somehow supposed to be a bit alternative, isn't it?)!:)
EPISODE III
I usually complain about the cold winter in Milano... well, after surviving one week to minus 15 in the lovely&snowy Lithuania (coldest climate ever my skin was touched by), I promise I won't claim anymore about north-italian winter!:)
EPISODE IV (set in Bucharest)
After years of interest about the jewish history, thanks to Anda, I joined a jewish celebrawtion in the sinagogue of Bucharest! Such an emotion to me, thinking about all the history of Eastern Europe, to be there into this old building listening to ancient rituals.
PS
Less deep, but also important: had a great 32nd birthday in Bucharest, organizing a nice CS meeting + drum&bass rave dancing after, together with locals and international travellers!:)Opinion on the CouchSurfing.com ProjectI think this is a brilliant idea and hopefully I will do my best on order to contribute to this!:)Locations TraveledTRAVELED: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom LIVED: Germany, Netherlands WANTS TO GO: Bulgaria, Finland, France, Ireland (Republic of), Sweden IS GOING TO: Portugal, Spain References

From GERGANAB Elk Grove, United States Jul 31 Positive I met Lorenzo while couch surfing at his girlfriend’s apartment. He is a very friendly, nice and well-rounded person who is genuinely interested in learning about other people and different cultures. I was impressed with his knowledge about chalga (even though this genre of music does not particularly suit my taste), bah-nee-tza (a Bulgarian dish) and rah-kee-ya (a traditional Bulgarian hard liquor).
From Domingos Ribeiro Braga, Portugal Jul 28 Positive Lorenzo is a great guy. Is the better person to show you the real side of Milan. He prepared a CS Meeting for me and my friend, was the better introduction of Milan that we could have.
Lorenzo has a good caracter and is very talkative, a wonderfull person to meet and know.

Anytime your welcome in my home,
Angela
From Shelby Chubb Vannes, France Jun 26 Due to a whole bunch of bad luck and unfortunate circumstances, we were unable to meet up as originally planned. I felt really bad about all our mishaps and feel lucky that Lorenzo was still willing to offer my friend and I lunch at his flat. It's really unfortunate that we didn't get to know each other better because our brief talks before/during lunch were very animated and interesting. Thanks for your understanding, Lorenzo!
From ELIZA1001 Pescara, Italy Jun 22 Positive Thanks also for you Lorenzo for hosting me after the concert. It was surely a nice "concert" and I enjoyed it almost as much as the concert on Tuesday. Hopefully we will meet at meetings around Italy.
From Steven Syrek New York, United States Jun 20 Positive I contacted Lorenzo six months before my intended stay, and he was a super guy for maintaining a correspondence with me that whole time. He also cooked me a delicious meal on my first night at his place, not a big deal for him, perhaps, but something this always starving backpacker is not soon to forget. I will definitely be visiting Italy again to visit Lorenzo and all the wonderful couchsurfers in that wonderful country.
From Violette Lee Singapore, Singapore Jun 18 Positive Lorenzo is really interesting and friendly! Although there were some problems with our train and we couldn't stay at his place, he met us the next afternoon just before he left Milan and we had lots of fun. Thanks for the tips on where to eat - it was really great!
From Hannah Foo Singapore, Singapore Jun 16 Positive Lorenzo Lorenzo!
My all time favourite host in whole of Europe! I really enjoyed conversing with you before the trip, and all the emails really got me excited and looking forward to meeting you in real life!
When there was the train problem I was really disapointed that we couldnt meet you, but after that I happy that we finally managed to meet after all! Its been wonderful getting to know you, and your passion for people and their culture is indeed admirable!
Keep the fire burning always.
From Agnija Jansone Riga, Latvia Jun 12 Positive Lorenzo is really polite, inteligent and smart person. I enyojed evening talks with him. would like to meet again, someday :)
From David FrẮnce© Barcelona, Spain Jun 10 Positive Lorenzo offered CSers to join him and celebrate his birthday in Bucharest.
I first met him at the CS dinner, where he proved how generous he is, for example offering a drink to everybody... even for people who didn't want alcohol (yeah, usually people who don't drink alcohol are disadvantaged, for once I wasn't, so a big thanks... and for the hot chocolate by itself of course)
Then some of us (the 2 of us, his GF, Adriana & Denisa), went to a D&B party. Lorenzo proved me that she was able to have fun, with nice moves :-p
Finally, I met Lorenzo & Valeria again the day after, when wevisited The Village Museum with Adriana, and he showed some high interest in Romanian culture.
Generous, smiling, friendly... what are you waiting to meet him ? ;-)
From ravyouli Milano, Italy Jun 5 Positive Lorenzo is a thoughtful person, he really involves himself in the CS project! Peaceful, always ready to help I really recommend you to have cs experience with him, you won't be disappointed! Allez els bleus :-) Hope this bike sharing project will have a good success, but with you as sponsor, I don't worry ;-)
From Beckie Lowrance Gainesville, United States Jun 5 Positive Lorenzo was a wonderful host. He was was kind enough to take a train and a bus to meet us in front of the Duomo despite the rain. He cooked us a wonderful Italian dinner (I was taking notes) and had a wonderful meal and conversation with him and his girlfriend. It was eye opening to speak with them openly about everthing from culture, tradition, and politics. It was eye opening and refreshing. I hope all of our visits are as educational and inspiring. Thank you for everything!
From Matteo Sara La Spezia, Italy Jun 3 Positive Lorenzo survived after meeting four parents, three grandmothers and one nephew , and now even my father accepts CS! Huge mission.
I had immediately a good impression when I first met him on a plane to Bucuresti, and these two days just confirmed that we have much in common and many things to share (also great music, I should say).
From Yunxuan Chee Singapore, Singapore Jun 1 Positive Lorenzo is extremely friendly! He hold different views about many subjects. It was interesting to exchange views via email prior to couchsurfing. He has this small corner in the couchsurfers room, where he keeps all pictures of couchsurfers. He treats everyone like an unique individual and make it a point to know people beyond the facade. A true couchsurfer with a passionate, friendly, enthusiatic character. Excellent!
From Ricardo Perez Milano, Italy May 26 Positive We're twins! not only phisically, we also share many things
From Rory Pulvino Norman, United States May 24 Positive Extremely nice and respectful. Intelligent and willing to explain Italian culture and life. A wonderful guide for a great place

From Anna-SICILIA Marseille, France May 6 Positive MAY 08
"A curly man with a green jacket". This is what Lorenzo had told me about him before out appointment. Well, of course he is very much more. We spent a very nice time in a sunny Milan day together. He showed me the Milan he likes, his favourite area, his good addresses, the "little thing that a tourist just can't discover in a day" and that I enjoy so much. He taught me about History and it was sincerely interesting. We talked about many things, just because we had a lot to share. I enjoyed a lot. And this is not just a sentence.
Thanks very much Lorenzo. This is exactly what I enjoy in CS, meeting local people for sharing country, talks, philosophy and emotions.
Ariverdeci.
JULY 08

He made our holiday in Milano unforgettable by arranging a lot of CS events, going out dancing with us or having some aperitivo at a bar, inviting for dinner at his place, and just being so nice, helpful all the time. His humor is the best! He is the master of pulling ironic jokes. There should be a Lorenzo in all places around the world.
It was a pleasure meeting you!! Oh, and take good care of Bruno the swedish elk -just mentioning it to make sure you won’t forget his name :)
All the best for you and I hope to maybe see you again some day!
From Doris Neubauer Vienna, Austria May 5 Positive Lorenzo, jaaaa, please come to Vienna, I´d love to host you&meet you again! There are not enough words to express how caring, funny, smart, creative, enthusiastic, adventurous... Lorenzo is. He made our Milano trip really special, introduced us to his city and the crowd of great CS people there. We count us lucky that he had some days off as well and really did spend that much time with us. It sounds kitschy, but it`s true: You`re just amazing and definitely our number 1!

He's just a perfect couchsurfer. He will accompany you to discover the many beauties of his city, not the crowded&touristical ones but the best (and hidden) corners&views that Milan can offer.
I had the pleasure to surf couches with him and I can say that he's also an exemplary guest. Polite, respectful, but also funny and curious he will be happy to share time and stories with his host, and not only get an accomodation.
Beside all this I want to add that he's now a very important person for me. Thanks to some common passions for cultural stuff (he's a real authority in the field) and couchsurfing, we've discovered a great joy in sharing experiences together.
Dazzling and unexpected, he saved my happiness giving me a lot of it in one of the worst time of my life ...
I'd like to add many other things, but Lorenzo, like the most precious treasures, deserves to be discovered, savouring all the richness of his soul:)

I surfed his couch quite unexpectedly that night, but I learnt one importante thing - CS is really wonderful and next time I'll probably forget about hostels;) Lorenzo, grazie mille for everything and of course, if you visit Prague one day, you're welcome here!
From Generic Dandy Portsmouth, United Kingdom Mar 8 Positive Lorenzo is my second host through CS. If you couchsurf at Lorenzo's, be ready to feel at home. He is a friendly, funny, generous and clever host. Though we didn't spend enough time together because I stayed at his place during the week, I can say I highly trust Lorenzo. He's one of those people who makes the World a better place to live. Hospitality isn't a word in the dictionnary of Lorenzo, it's his way of life. I hope we'll meet again and spend more time together.
PS: Il rissotto rosso e multo buono. Grazie mille.

From Paola N. Milano, Italy Jan 12 Positive I first contacted Lorenzo because I was interested by the abstract of his thesis on his CS page. Then, we ended up seeing a photography exhibition together.
Lorenzo is an extremely radiant, interesting and polite guy. He invited me on a short trip to Venice and we had a great time: as a traveller, he is a real flaneur, who likes to walk and absorb the atmosphere of a city. He's not a hectic person, but the sort of traveller who will take his time to see a place properly.
If you travel with him or are hosted by him, you're bound to discover a lot of things related to the history and culture of the place where you are... But you will also know the place through its food |
