Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Maybe Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 4
Shared Sleeping Surface: No Shared Room: Noprivate rooms, with a bed or a couch update: Well well well, many things are changing in my life. My wife Ilaria and me are buying a new house, so we will move in the next months (I don't know precisely when). It is going to be a big house, with a lot of space, so it sounds a good news for couchsurfing. There's a problem anyway: in the next future I won't be able to host until all the restyling will be finished, I'm not putting my icon on "no" only because I hope to find time and space to host once a month, but I won't be sure.
.
There's something more: I'm changing also my job (well, it's more adding a new one), and I'll have to spend some nights out for it, so hosting people will be even harder in the future, but I'll do my best not to loose all CS opportunities.
.
I live with my wife Ilaria but I will probably host you at my former house. As a married couple, we probably couldn't afford all the couch requests, so I'll consider only complete profiles, with pictures or links, or references, or something else showing you're serious about the project, like donations or anything else. .. . . . . I don't smoke and I don't like it, smokers can use only the balcony; La Spezia is a not so ancient but nice little town in the eastern Riviera Ligure, in the centre of the so called "Poet's Gulf", between the famous "Cinque Terre" and other very nice places like Portovenere, Lerici, Tellaro, Sarzana. We are near to Carrara (have you heard about the marble?), Pisa (the tower) and other places of the beatiful coast of Liguria. You can find little museums in the city, good cook, and most of all, a wonderful seaside. I've got some blankets, if you need them, but if you have sleeping bags I'll have less work to do and I'll be happier. If you are a musician and you need to exercise, you can play my piano without problems with my neighbours. The days' number depends on the season or on your activities, you simply have to ask for it, however I prefer to host you for more than one night. P.S. - - - -: Something more: I don't give keys to the apartment, and I don't leave guests alone at home, so you should respect my schedule. If you are asking me to be my guest my home is your home, so you are supposed to help me to keep our house clean, (I mean, simply, everybody has to cancel his tracks). - - - -I've got a last, little request: I want to know you and the place you're coming from, so please take some photos, images, some folders (also taken for free from your tourism office)of your place with you, I'll be glad of this present!!

As a guest, I surfed Dominika`s couch in Krakow, I went with my friend Giulia to visit Anika in Hannover, I met Stuttgart night fun at Corra's place, and I discovered Katowice's hospitality in Piotr and Magda house, and I've visited in Berlin my friend Sergio "Cico" Plaitano's place, really good times!InterestsArts, of course (especially contemporary art), playing piano and keyboards, my musical-cabaret band, travelling, eating good foods, listening to jazz music, supporting fair trade, cinema ("d'essay").
Anyway, even if visual art is my main interest, I think that Music has more chances to express our sense of life and the consciousness of death, being less connected with reality, it can fly wherever we want (or she wants? mmmm...).
I like to take pictures when I'm travelling, so I'm putting some photos from my travels on my profile. Some of them are just jokes or strange points of view, probably they are just a way to say thanks to locals, the only which can understand every shot.Philosophymy personal philosophy? Listen to "the sea, part 2" by Ketil Bjornstad, Terje Rypdal, David Darling and Jon Christensen. There's nothing to add.Music, Movies, BooksI love cinema when it is art, i don't when it's only business (Pedro Almodovar, Ferzan Ozpetek, Stanley Kubrick, Matteo Garrone, Francois Ozon, Zhang Yimou, Paolo Sorrentino, Kristof Kieslowsky are some of my favourite directors, and I really believe that Kim Ki Duk is a kind of poet/genius)("Shortbus", "I cento passi" are other movies I really like).
I listen to jazz music, expecially from Ecm label; contemporary, romantic, classic music; but also pop-rock, when it's good. (Some names? Misha Alperin, Arild Andersen, John Abercrombie, John Taylor, Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, our Lord Bill Evans, Arvo Part, Ketil Bjornstad, Terje Rypdal, David Darling, John Christensen, Tomasz Stanko, Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani, Antonello Salis, Mauro Avanzini, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Pierre Favre, Jan Garbarek, Yellowjackets, Weather Report and the immortal Jaco, and many others.....). Anyway I'm not a jazz nerd, listen to Caparezza (wonderful last album) and Frankie Hi-Nrg, and many other pop-rock musicians.
I don't read so many living writers, and I don't have a preferred genre, some names like C.Pavese, W.Faulkner and F.Dostojesvkij show what I mean. My favourite writer is still J.R.R.Tolkien, I mean, I read "Lord of the Rings" so many times, every march 25th I celebrate the fall of the ring, I buy a Tolkien's book in every country I go, and we wrote on our wedding rings "and in the darkness bind them". Is it enough?
Types of People I enjoyEveryone who's interested in life, curious and smart. Most of all, i'd like to meet people with some of my interests in common, wherever they come from. So artists (I'm always looking around to organize little exhibition), musicians, art historians, or something else. Opinion on the CouchSurfing.com Projectfrom one to ten......... From FILIPEK Palermo, Italy Aug 28 Positive Matteo is a great host really, even if he was busy and in the middle of august he hosted me and Marianna for one night. I like his humour, clever and sharp. We spent a nice evening in Sarzana and we spent almost a night talking with other guests about our very funny CS experiences. At the end Marianna and me forgot to leave him a bottle of sicilian wine but for person like him that not drink wine maybe it has been fine eh!eh! anyway we didn’t forget so we are waiting in our place in Sicily Matteo and Ilaria for an analholic sicilian drink!

From Anna-SICILIA Rome, Italy Jul 20 Positive If Matteo had been a close cousin or my brother, I would not have felt more comfortable at his place.
He hosted me and my friend Angela for 3 nights and, I can't explain exactly why but I felt like "in my family", and this, even before to meet his wife, his dad, his friends...
Grazie fratello italiano.

From Kata Bordács Budapest, Hungary Jul 18 Positive If you happen to go to La Spezia I really advise you to look for the local Jesus of the town, called Matteo. He was our step-father for three days, he introuduced us to the fantastic company of couchsurfers in La spezia. He is a great person with excellent sense of humor and what I really liked about him is that he is always calm and balanced. If you are thinking about hosting him make him promise to make icecream because it is HMMMMM....more than good.
From Federico Gallo Parma, Italy Jul 4 Positive Matteo is an intelligent, outgoing and profound person.
He is an indefatiguable fellow, always helpful, "user-friendly" and able of keeping his moderate tranquillity in every circumstance.
As Loremaster Elrond in Rivendell (Tolkien's fan will understand...), he has many interests and knowledges that share with ease.
Great guy! ;)

He was helpful with everything and always kind with every requests (and also answers, as I made so many questions to him and Ilaria, sorry guys, it is stronger than me!;). And we had the possibility, a big pleasure and privilege, to be there during the vernissage of an art exhibition he worked on, into an amazing place in Liguria. It was fun then to meet and eat together with all the big family... sgabei for president!:)

A perfect friend for a thoroughly deracinated fellow like myself!

From CORRA Stuttgart, Germany May 8, 2007 Positive Well, I know... I took some times to write the reference for Matteo and Federico, but is not easy to write somethinks about fantastic guests without to write boring staff. I just want to say, that I spent with these 2 really special guests a fabulous time! We had a lot of fun and interesting conversations and I feelt like I meet 2 old friends! Matteo is really funny... always the right funny word on the right moment and he gives you a sense of peace and calm (maybe also because of his Jesus-look :-))... difficult to describe him... you have to enjoy him! From GTURTLE30 Santa Cruz, United States Feb 26, 2007 Positive I surfed Matteo's couch for only one night and wished it could have been longer. He was a kind and gentle person, and made me feel at home during my stay in La Spezia. He seemed like an intelligent man, so I feel that it was unfortunate that we didn't have more time to converse. Until next time, Matteo. Ciao!
From Hillary Jenkins El Dorado Hills, United States Feb 26, 2007 Positive Matteo, or Jesus :), hosted my friend and I for our first night in La Spezia. From Cico Plaitano Berlin, Germany Jan 21, 2007 Positive We meet in a travel from Roma and from 2 differents experiences, after we meet occasionally in the center of La Spezia, and often we stop for 2 words in the afternoon or in the evening... that's what livin the same city offers, may be we watch together some good movie not so far...
From Joshua Grover Denton, United States Oct 25, 2006 Positive Ourstanding Host. My friend and I stayed with Matteo for 3 nights. He was extremely friendly and hospitable. If you are heading towards La Spezia you should contact Matteo because he will go out of his way to ensure your visit is a great one.
From Kimba Griffith Melbourne, Australia Oct 4, 2006 Positive Matteo is a little gem in Liguria. He has a sharp mind and an excellent wit, he knows so much about the history of his town and surrounds(and even more about art history), and he is a great musician and a lovely man as well. We really felt welcome and had such memorable times. See you in our home in Australia my friend, but leave your cold at home!
From Anika Goetje Dortmund, Germany Aug 28, 2006 Positive When Matteo requested to couchsurf with me he first wrote "I don't drink, don't take drugs, but am fun anyway!" He is so right. This long-haired Jesus-looking Italian has a great sense of humour and makes you laugh all the time! Matteo is the perfect couchsurfer and spoilt us with presents, took us out for dinner and couldn't be stopped from washing the dishes! We had a great time and I hope to see him soon in his hometown!
From Juraj Kohan Prague, Czech Republic Aug 14, 2006 Positive As Matteo's 22nd couchsurfer I just say that couchsurfing with him is simply great experience, I'm very very thankfull to him and his brand-new wife for everything they did for me, and he's got some beautifull paintings in his flat, have a look at them

He also was our tourist information centre, internet point& local restaurant!!! This man can cook (if you like gelato you maybe lucky enough to sample some of his very own bellissimo)- sorry girls he is already taken by a very lovely lady. After 2 days and only a few hours we felt we had known Matteo alot longer. Thankyou very much we hope to meet you again in the future if we can convince you to come to Perth - Spiders and all!.
From Allecia and Sam Brodie Gold Coast, Australia Jul 30, 2006 Positive Matteo is awesome. We were so happy to have met him and now to be able to call him a friend. He made our stay very special and he makes the best gelati in Italy! We were so happy to see the wedding photo on his profile. We look foward to keeping in contact and seeing each other again one day.
From MONOCLOVER Perth, Australia Jul 28, 2006 Positive Perfect Gentleman, Perfect Host. You cannot ask more of this man as a host. He has restored my faith that there are still gentlemen in this world, in the utmost classical sense of the word. He provided for my every need in his gentle and polite way. Listened to my ramblings and cooked a simple but elegant Ligurian meal. His apartment was stylish but oh so cosy. We had interesting flowing discussions from the first moment I set foot in his home, as his taste in music and art are exquisite! Matteo deserves the title of 'Perfect Gentleman, Perfect Host'.
From Leo Forte Pontremoli, Italy Jul 24, 2006 Positive Matteo and his now wife came to lunch, accepting my invitation. I felt that we were couchsurfing members, we lived close to each other and it was only natural to invite them. We had a great day and Matteo and I have continued to "chat" with each over through the site ever since.
