CURRENT MISSION A good deed a day. ABOUT ME Born and raised in Canada a couple of hours outside Toronto. I've lived in the capital, Ottawa for the last 8 years since my job took me there. Actually, it's taken me a lot further than that. I spend most of the year in other countries working as a geophysicist. Fun cities, hot deserts and wet jungles. I think I'm pretty fortunate to like my job as that can seem like a tall order in this day and age. I'll settle down sooner or later, but for now I'm still trying to see some of the places that I've always wanted to see. PHILOSOPHY Although I'm not religious I try to be a good person in my dealings with other people. At the end of the day, we may have to answer to someone or something and so I'm just building up my karma bank account; just trying to get by like everyone else. I try to live life, enjoy the small things and be grateful for it all.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING At the moment, I'm traveling so I'm in the 'please help me' category. I hope to meet some good people and share some laughs. I look forward to hosting and helping people in my own country in the future. COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE I've only couchsurfed once; in Helsinki but am hoping to do a bit more in northern Europe when I will be in Holland and Belgium for a quick trip. Not that this next story was official couch surfing, but rather an informal ger surfing in Mongolia... In July 2006, I ended up hitching a lift in Mongolia with a local family. 200 kms took 3 days to cover and looking back, I kind of wished it took longer. The roads were a nightmare, but the real delay was the father's desire to drive me to my ultimate destination in return for my fishing rod. Since he wasn't ready to leave immediately, I rolled up my sleaves and learned how to milk goats and yaks and build a yurt over the next two days.
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: Shawshank Redemption, Gangs of New York, Back to the Future, City of Angels, Fight Club Music: Led Zeppelin, Ben Harper, Leonard Cohen, Radiohead, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam Books: the last few read were 'Guns, Germs and Steel'(J. Diamond), 'The Ground Beneath Her Feet'(Rushdie), 'The Life of Pi'(Y.Martel) and currently on 'Individuality' by D.DeLillo.
One Amazing Thing I've Done
My last job was in Papua New Guinea. We worked in a camp built in the middle of the jungle, hundreds of kilometers from anything. There was a small tribe of about 100 people living close by. We bought them a volleyball net and a soccer ball as well. Just hanging out with them and spending a couple months getting know each other, playing games, seeing them hunt with bows and arrows and then having them all come back to the camp to watch a DVD movie on a laptop was all memorable, if not a bit surreal at times.
Teach, Learn, Share
I play some guitar and I would say that I can definitely work the BBQ.
My Interests
I'm obviously interested in travel, which has mainly been in developing countries and often tied into my work since I travel internationally for work for most of the year. I usually prefer to be in the great outdoors; hiking, camping and canoeing but I'm also a culture vulture and love museums and soaking up some history. Otherwise, I pass the time by reading, playing guitar, cooking and hanging out with friends.
