Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Maybe Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 1
Shared Sleeping Surface: No Shared Room: YesI am currently renting a single room so there is not a lot of privacy but I'm ok with that if you are ok with that.
I have spare mattresses, duvets, sheets, blankets, towels etc. just let me know if you will be needing any of those
Couch status:.
I prefer to host one surfer at a time since I have limited space but in a pinch I can host 2 people.
In general I don't really have a lot of time (or patience for that matter) to answer questions about cheap flights, accommodation, rent, work etc. that can be found on google. You are very welcome to ask me any unique question that you think would be best answered by a local but for general questions, please just google it or use the Iceland or Reykjavik group :)
I live in Reykjavík, close to the center but not close enough to walk. The bus is close by and takes about 5-7 minutes to reach Hlemmur bus station, BSI and downtown. Good bus to the swimming pool and super markets are plenty in the area.
I have a mattress and some duvets if you are cold :) There are towels and access to a washing machine if you like but not good kitchen facilities ;) If you think that you want to use a washing machine while here please let me know at least 12 days in advance because I need to reserve it.
Normally I won't have a lot of time to show people around, I am a very busy student, but I will be happy to give some tips and take you to the swimming pool or the pub or wherever when I do have time.
I have a cat and I don't smoke, smokers will have to go outside to do their thing but I will provide a key so you can get in and out. :)
Please check my calendar for availability before you request to surf my couch. An empty box does not mean I can host you for sure.
I prefer to get requests at maximum two months in advance. Last minute requests are no problem if you have checked my calendar and see an empty box but more than 2 months in advance will usually not get you anywhere. :)
I don't mind if you are a new member and don't have a long list of references. However if your couchrequest is very vague, your profile is empty or without pictures I can not accept your request. Couchsurfing is about getting to know new people and I can not let you into my home if I don’t know who you are or don’t see you putting the minimum effort into your profile and request.

Personal DescriptionMost of the time I am a calm, independent person although I do go a little crazy when I'm in the mood... I love to travel and meet new people... Just like 99% of couchsurfers ;)
I am a student and I quite like the life that follows with it... How I Participate in CS2I have been hosting since summer 2006 and had a lot of people stay over all year round. It's been so much fun and has often made my life much more exciting. It's a great opportunity to learn new things about other cultures. :)
I have surfed in Amsterdam, London, Hong Kong and Canada and hope to do some more surfing in the future. InterestsOther people and cultures, music, good books, traveling, good movies, etc.
I am also a tea fanatic and a beer lover. Bring me tea or one beer from you home country and I will love you forever ;)
Music, Movies, BooksBooks: Oryx and Crake, Blind assassin, High society, Vernon God Little, White teeth, Brick Lane and so many others, this is just something I've read recently
Movies: Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Gattaca, Requiem for a dream, Fight club, Osama, Hotel Rawanda, Amélie... I am also into a lot of independent movies. If you have a good movie from your home country that you want to share with me I would definitely be interested.
Music: Tool, SigurRós, Metallica,
Massive attack, Radiohead, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins, Úlpa, Shadow Parade, Múm, Ampop, Mugison, Jack Johnson and similar things. Types of People I enjoyI like open, liberal minded people who don't follow the crowd any more than they really want... I like calm and introvert people just as much as extrovert people. I try to respect everyone but occasionally I'm a little rude to people I don't like. :P but I like most people anyway so it's not a big deal.
Flag counter put up on the 9th of November.Teach, Learn, ShareI can share some Icelandic music with you and would love to hear some music from your home also... I also have and interest in all kinds of movies and you are welcome to enjoy my collection while you are here. I don't have a good collection of Icelandic movies with subtitles but I am working on it. If you are willing to share a good movie from your home I would be delighted :) One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneClimbed an amazing waterfall and almost fell to my death in Lao. Opinion on the CouchSurfing.com ProjectI think this is a great project and it's a fun way to see the world in a more realistic view. From Andrea Bonfatti Paini Reykjavik, Iceland Nov 20 Positive we have been helping out together in two work camp of a local NGO. Helpful person, not afraid to cook for 30 people. well she's an "ambassador", I think she doesn't need any reference...
From Jamie La Vigne Denver, United States Nov 3 Positive Setta is such a sincere and generous person. She opened her home to me and made me so welcomed. I wish I lived nearby so we could hang out all the time!
From Daniel Vollstedt San Luis Potosi, Mexico Oct 20 Positive Setta and Bjarni always squeezed us in - no matter what. Even on the shortest notice! We spent brillant days at their flat that somehow worked as a couchsurfing-hub this summer. They are defnitely one reason for us to go back to Iceland.
From Karl Eisner Brisbane, Australia Oct 20 Positive Setta was a great host. Even though I didn't get to spend all that much time with here while staying at her place, we got to chat at the Reykjavik couchsurfing meeting. She's friendly and interesting and I´m very glad to have been able to meet her.
From Sebastian Bauer Munich, Germany Sep 20 Positive I stayed with 3 friends at Setta's and Bjarni's place in Reykjavik before we started on our hiking/camping trip at Landmannalaugar.
It's amazing how hospitable Setta is, cramming 4 people into her small apartment, even though she has to work all day - thanks a lot!
She has a cat that knows how to use the toilet, and a guest book with hundreds of Couchsurfers already in it.

From Emily Aidan Walker Maple Ridge, Canada Sep 6 Positive Wow. I couldn't have asked for someone more welcoming than Setta to be my first contact in Iceland! When I first arrived, I wasn't to be hosted by her and her boyfriend Bjarni for another week, but on my very first day in Iceland, Setta answered to my call for someone to hang out and do some shopping with. She took me to the good spots, invited me to join in an evening with her friends, introduced me to the 'scene' downtown, and that was only the first day! Setta and Bjarni were such easy-going, friendly, and generous hosts. Takk Takk fyrir allt! I'll bring you beer next time... maybe see you in October? :D
From Martin Koppold Heubach, Germany Sep 3 Positive Thanks very much for the welcome. I felt at home at once. Very kind couple. Recommandable. Greetings from Martin
From Brandon Mayo Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 3 Positive Although we spent most of our time sightseeing, Setti and Bjarni were fun to chat with in the evenings and provided us with positively surpringly comfortable matresses in the living room :) Thanks! Brandon & Anders

From Ayala Gannot Shimshit, Israel Aug 13 Positive My experience has been short but sweet. Came along to a CS group she organised to go together to the Reykjavik pride parade. . . This friendly girl made me feel at ease, welcomed and accepted in two seconds.
From SCHAF Edinburgh, United Kingdom Aug 10 Positive Setta was my main point of contact when preparing for my first Iceland trip, which also included staying at her place twice. It's great to come to a totally new country and be welcomed with such ease, as if we would be flatmates. Thank you for the welcoming open arms and all the help, which influenced my Iceland experience a lot.
From Felix Beckebanze Bielefeld, Germany Aug 10 Positive I surfed Setta's and Bjorni's couch for two nights (well, actually one because I didn't go to sleep the other night). It was an awesome couchsurfing experience and I can definitely recommend their couch. Too bad I didn't see you in NASA (it's a night club) any more. Thanks a lot for the good time.

From Kent Glovinsky San Diego, United States Jul 22 Positive I stayed at Settas place for 2 nights. She is very welcoming and really makes you feel safe and comfortable. From Selene Anneroza Driessen Kinrooi, Belgium Jul 19 Positive Setta is a very warm and sweet person with a good energy. She is a good cook and gives you all the help you need. We went for a late evening swim in one of the good swimmingpools in Reykjavik together with her boyfriend. It was so good to stay with these people!
From Ravi and Smitha Viswanathan Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 15 Positive Though we could not spend much time at there house as we were taking day trips almost everyday...we could rest well in their bedroom which has a very good collection of books! We had a good time interacting with Setta and Bjarni...hope we can meet again soon
From Gudlaug Björnsdottir Reykjavik, Iceland Jul 13 Positive I´ve met Setta on several CS meetings. That she´s an CS ambassador tells a lot about the CS spirit she´s possessed with :) We frequently host the same people and they all speak highly of her and Bjarni. She´s helpful, open and very active in the CS community in Iceland.
From DANARAH Vienna, Austria Jul 10 Positive what can i say about setta, her fabulous boyfriend bjarni and her lovely cat freja? they are just great! after a long period of "only" hosting, i was kinda nervous before doing some surfing myself, but setta and bjarni welcomed me and claudia so warm and friendly, that all the stress was gone soon. they are amazing people, smart, witty, with a great sense of humour and a kind of unlimited generousity. i'm so glad they decided to join me and claudia in our road trip to the skaftafell national park, because after these two great days, i felt we had really become what i treasure most: friends. i count so much on seeing them again, either in vienna (please come and visit!) or in iceland or somewhere else in the great wide world. thanks so much guys for being who you are!
From Tero Moliis Monterrey, Mexico Jul 10 Positive Setta was kind enough to host us on a very short notice and even if we didnt manage to spend a lot of time together, Setta was a great host and showed us a lot of trust and openess. Thank you once again for everything and we look forward to hosting you in Chiapas in the future!
From Eve Radovsky Sharon, United States Jul 9 Positive Setta is a bubbly, funny, welcoming person. She is also a good cook. It was great to stay with her.
From Lenka Janotkova Stockholm, Sweden Jul 8 Positive Setta and Bjarni hosted me for two nights and although we didnt spend much time together I really appreciated their hospitality and helpfulness such as Bjarni giving me a lift to the bus station at 4.30am!!! I wish you all the best guys!
From Anna Maclean Melbourne, Australia Jul 7 Positive Setta is a sweetheart! i met Setta and Bjarni out for beers with James and ended up going dancing and drinking with them after the Bjork Sigor Ros concert.. it was an awesome night - morning! when i came back from camping sick and tired they also gave me a bed for the night.. so good to meet you guys! come visit me in oz anytime.. ax
From Crystal Pollock Melbourne, Australia Jul 6 Positive Setta and Bjarni are such a delightful couple with one chatty kitty kat. Setta is such a fabulous girl who seems to overflow with such generosity to help others. Bjarni is just the same like giving me a lift to my next couchsurfing hosts place for example and taking the time to walk with me around the town and tell me stories about Reyjavik. Setta and Bjarni are wonderful people who i highly recommend.
From TANGODEVA South San Francisco, United States Jul 5 Positive Bjarni and Setta were very easy to talk to and they were incredibly helpful during our trip with our 'errands'. I hope they will visit me one day in Asutralia!
From OGONEKORAMA Saint Petersburg, Russia Jul 3 Positive Setta took us under her wing for our first night in Iceland, before we went off for a 6-day self-drive around Iceland. She is full of local tips and advices, a great and reliable hostess you don't want to miss!
From Grace Statwick Poughkeepsie, United States Jul 2 Positive For a few days there, my sister and I lived in Setta's house while she didn't (Canada strikes again), which was a strange first Couchsurfing experience...but all was made right when we finally met up and crashed with her the night of the Bjork/Sigur Ros concert. Loads of good feeling. They're great people and great cat.
From Wing Bo Tso Birmingham, United Kingdom Jul 1 Positive My friend Mandy and I lived at Setta's home in June 08. Setta and her boyfriend were very kind and friendly. We were given their home's key the first day we arrived. They also gave us travel tips and ideas, making our trip better than ever. On the last night that we were staying, we had a nice, warm chat. I was also served with Setta's favourite tea in her tea collection.
Thanks to Setta, my first couchsurfing experience was a big success.
From Yala Pierenkemper San Luis Potosi, Mexico Jun 30 Positive Setta and Bjarni are amazing. Although they've been to Canada at that time they let us stay for a couple of nights in their beautiful and cosy appartment.
Luckily we got the chance to meet them in person some weeks later and such a lovely time!!!
They also gave us useful tips where to go (or where to get a wedding present...) and we did not only learn that you can teach your cat to use your toilet but also how you make these warm sheep-wool-and-leather-gloves...
Setta and Bjarni offered us to stay although they already had the appartment full of couch surfers - and they did this not only once but twice. (And if that was not enough, they also let me occupy their living room and Setta's computer for more than a day so that I could finish a 'project').
Takk fyrrir! (Daniel can pronounce it, I can't...)
From Katrin Keuzenkamp Utrecht, Netherlands Jun 27 Positive Setta and her boyfriend Bjarni and her cat Freya were AMAZING hosts! They were extremely friendly and generous, showing me around the city and sharing their food with me. Great, great, great experience!! Thank you so much guys!
From Gabe Radovsky Louisville, United States Jun 19 Positive Setta and Bjarni were my first real live couch surfing hosts, and my only complaint is I'm worried that no one else will measure up! They're great people, and they went out of their way to help us find our way around Reykjavík, etc. Also, the way Setta says Bjarni's name when she wants him to do something is really funny. If you'vemet them you know what I mean :)
From Ivan Brankovic Maastricht, Netherlands Jun 14 Positive I can say nothing but sweet things about Setta and Bjarni. I stayed at their place for 3 days, and the two of them truly know how to make one feel incredibly welcomed. It was so kind of them to host me while being stuck in their little jetlag inferno that went on at the time :) We shall hopefully meet again, guys :]
From James Maddison Reykjavik, Iceland Jun 13 Positive setta is certainly doing what she can for cs here and has a positive attitude that has been appreciated at all the events she´s been to sofar. definitely a top choice for a host.
From COOKSOWELL Montreal, Canada Jun 6 Positive Setta and Bjarni stayed at my place and their presence were very apreciated, they are a nice couple that have lots of respect and care for my place. I did not know much about Iceland and they shared a lot in our conversation. It was a real pleasure to host them and I now want to go to visit their contry and meet them again.
From Mirjam van den Berg The Hague, Netherlands Jun 5 Positive I'm sure that if I'd spent a bit more time with Setta and Bjarni, I would have said they're lovely, warm, kind and fun hosts. However, they had decided on a last-minute trip to Canada, trusting me and my friend with their keys, appartment, fridge contents, internet and excellent taste in movies a mere 12 hours after we first met. Simply amazing and truly wonderful. We had an excellentl time in Reykjavik, and hope your stay in Canada was just as nice.
From Bragi Jonsson Reykjavik, Iceland May 28 Positive Met her at a CS meeting that she held at her house. Seemed to be very positive and friendly. She is also doing a great job as a ambassador for the club and is busy hosting. Now I have met her many times and think of her as a good friend and doing greatjob for couchsurfing as a Ambassador
From Sisters Christina and Alice Wu Toronto, Canada May 26 Positive Setta, Bjarni and Freya (the kitty) were great hosts! My sister and I surfed their place for 5 days. They helped us get a deal on tours, directed us to hot spots and must-sees and even made us a fantastic dinner one evening. They have the best taste in candy and their kitty is SO cute! On a day tour, we actually ran into another Canadian who was surfing with Setta's mom, Setta! What a small world. :)
From Elsa Christophe Chicago, United States May 24 Positive Setta and Bjarni are really great and warm people.
It was a perfect surf for my friends and I, thank you very much and see you soon!
From Alana Case Ballarat, Australia May 22 Positive I had a wicked time in Iceland and Setta was more than the perfect host!!!! She really has set the standard high. Setta was more than helpful and made me feel really at home, even cooked lasagna for dinner and mean carrot cake.
Thanks Setta, Bjarmi and Freya for making my first couch surfing experience one to remember and my stay so wonderful!!! You rock!!
From Kerry Jones Port Adelaide, Australia May 2 Positive We stayed with Setta and Bjarni in beautiful Iceland for 3 nights and found them to be the most welcoming and friendly hosts anybody could hope for. We were so appreciative of the all the tips and help they both gave us, nothing was too much trouble. We hope to stay in touch and it would be an honor and a pleasure to host them in our home in Australia. Even the cuddly cat is welcome!
From Vala and Þórgnýr Thoroddsen Reykjavik, Iceland Apr 27 Positive So far so good! Setta seems to be an CS activist. I look forward to doing good deeds for the Icelandic CS scene with her.
From Li Wang Haidian, China Apr 23 Positive I have just come back from Reykjavik, being hosted warmly by Setta. She is such a nice girl that everyone wants to be her friend. I would say that it was my first couchsurfing experience, and also a very very successful one, because Setta tried to help me a lot.
It would be lucky to any couchsurfers to have the chance to be her cosy apartment:)
From Lile Sijakovic Skopje, Macedonia-FYROM Apr 12 Positive ...my first surfing was at Setta's. I was overwhelmed how hospitable a person could be! Felt really like home having our own room, TWO pairs of keys, kitchen, home cinema and a cat:)and on top of that Setta as a host!!! Just great!!! Thanks a bunch!!
From Gabriel Pompilius Ferndale, United States Apr 10 Positive Setta was my first host in Reykjavik and I owe only good memories to my stay with her in a beautiful apartment in the center of the city. She was extremely kind and willing to help me find my away around the city and out towards the country side (she even got me a discount on a bus tour). Thank you for the fish dinner and all your hospitality! You're always welcome in Detroit.
From Alicia DeFrancesco Paris, France Apr 7 Positive A friend and I stayed with Setta for one night in March. She and Bjarni (and their adorable cat) were really wonderful hosts. They took us to visit the blue lagoon the day we arrived in Iceland, it was such a great way to start our trip!
From Işsevenler Derince, Turkey Mar 23 really want to meet her :)
From Dylan-Ernst Schäfer Mountain Center, United States Mar 23 Positive Setta was a great host, helping me to get oriented in the city. Her place is wonderfully located and she has all the materials you´d expect of a Couch Surfing expert--even extra keys. What a pleasure to kick off my stay in Iceland!
From Justin Bland Washington, United States Mar 6 Positive I stayed with Setta in Bjarni over a year ago and have been extremely lazy about writing this reference, but I could not have had a better experience. They are incredible hosts, very kind people and threw a pretty excellent party. Hopefully I can one day return the favor to them.
From Cynthia Rapp Charlestown, United States Mar 3 Positive Setta and her boyfriend were incredibly flexible about being available for me to drop my stuff off at their place, and the room is spacious and very nice. I ended up not spending the night with them afterall because of changes in my plans, and they were so understanding about it. I would definitely recommend them as hosts!
From Bryan Pitchko Edmonton, Canada Feb 28 Positive Setta and Bjarni are amazing, their place is gorgeous and they took us clubbing on the weekend. Setta even managed to get a soaking wet person into NASA.
From Anthony Asael Brussels, Belgium Feb 22 Positive It was great to stay with Setta and Bjarni. I arrived in their very warm appartment at 2 am after walked from the bus station in a freezing cold Reykjavik (a stunning -18C). I was happy to find so great host. We got the chance also to see with them a glimpse of the Northern Lights. Lucky we are ;-)

From SHUU Graz, Austria Feb 14 Positive Setta is a wonderful girl, and together with her cat, makes very pleasant company ;). She gave as own room, and everything that goes with it... A spare key, and we used her kitchen, also watched movies and stuff. The experience was just amazing, take you very very much!! Kisses from Graz
From Stephanie Rabemiafara Brussels, Belgium Feb 11 Positive Setta and Bjarni hosted us for a few nights in Reykjavik. Great host, great couch, and great cat :-)
They gave us very useful tips, and even braved the deep cold outside, to hunt the Northern Lights for us! It was a wonderful experience for me.
From Connie Hum New York, United States Jan 15 Positive Setta certainly has the couchsurfing thing down! She allowed my friend and I to stay in her flat in Reykjavik for an entire week while she was traveling in Cuba, all this without even meeting us first! It was too bad that we only got a chance to meet for a few minutes before I had to leave for the airport. I would have loved to get to know Setta better as she seems like such an open-minded and hospitible person.
From Romy Matthias Andebu, Norway Jan 14 Positive it was nice to stay over the busy days at her place... cool and relax to celebrate new years eve with her, her boyfriend and the cute cat & great to see the fireworks...we felt comfortable at her place and we like to come back...and thanks again for the icelandic music...

:-)

She made sure we were taken care of in Iceland and let us have the run of her lovely apartment. I am truly amazed at the level of her generosity! I will hopefully some day be able to return the favor.
--Seth

she let us stay with her for longer than we'd asked and made us feel so welcome and at home.
kind, trustworthy and friendly!
From Helle Skovmose Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 31, 2007 Positive My experiance staying with Setta and Bjarni was absolutly positive. They are both wery hospitable, friendly and fund people who made us feel at home right away, took us to see reykjavik and drank a lot (too mush?) airport-vodka with us! Staying with Setta and Bjarni is definetly a very good introduction to Iceland!
From Nils K. Würzburg, Germany Oct 26, 2007 Positive I only surfed Setta´s couch for two nights, but I think she is really interesed in her couchsurfers and very helpful if you want to know something about her country. Besides she is very talkative and open-minded. She opens her flat and heart for strangers from all over the world. That´s really a great thing. Go on like this! ;) Good Luck
From Lisa Shoemaker and Karen Kotlar Syracuse, United States Oct 7, 2007 Positive Setta is excatly the kind of person this network is all about...open-minded and trusting, a true giver in the world who gives of herself at home and abroad. From Carina Elisabeth Beddari Bergen, Norway Feb 16, 2007 Positive Setta and Bjarni must be the ideal hosts! They were very helpful, kind and friendly. They even took me to a poetryreading, bought me beer and served some great food. Guys, you are great! Thank you.
From Martin Leifsson Hafnarfjordhur, Iceland Jan 20, 2007 Positive I haven't done much else on her couch than sitting there and eating snacks and singing karaoke in the SingStar-game, but I'm pretty sure she's a bullet-proof couch-surfer host! A good person by everything I know.
From Kelly Ryan Pittsburgh, United States Nov 22, 2006 Positive When nobody else in Iceland got back to us Setta and Bjarni came to the rescue. Not only did they give us a wonderful place to lay our heads, but they offered warm hospitality, very helpful tips, and took us along on an IKEA shopping run in Reykjavik! We hope to meet you both again someday. Our trip couldn't of been better thanks!!!
From Shain Shapiro London, United Kingdom Oct 23, 2006 Positive Setta and Bjarni are two of the loveliest people in Iceland. I felt at home from the moment I got to Reykjavik. Even though I was busy working the Airwaves Festival, we found time to eat together, laugh alot and try Pimms. Plus, they got me hooked on Skyr. I will be back in Iceland as soon as possible, not only for the country but also to see them again.
From Max Fletcher San Francisco, United States Oct 19, 2006 Positive It was a cold and windy night in iceland, and I just found out that my reservation was cancelled, when... setta and bjarni came to the rescue! They were extremely kind, and stayed up late answering all my questions about christmas in iceland. Thanks bunches!
