Groups I Belong ToCouch Information Couch Available: Coffee or a drink Preferred Gender: AnyRight now I live (mostly) in the Dorms at my Uni. For you, this means I've got a spare single mattress to offer (quite decent), plus two short uncomfortable couches, whichever you like. Note I'm sharing my flat with 4 other guys, and it's their couches as well (my room is my own, but I share the living room, shower and everything else with my roommates; don't be bothered by that, since they're OK with CS and you'll barely run into them while staying at my place). Another possible problem is that I'm usually studying a lot, so this is more of an offer of a couch alone, and less of an offer to show you around and hang out with you. Sorry, busy times.
My Uni. is sadly located on the more boring edge of Haifa, near Neve Sha'anan, which means about a half-hour bus ride from/to any point of interest in the city. However, bus service is extensive.
If you don't mind these, however, I'd love to make your stay as comfy as possible. Sheets, towel, etc. are on me.
On the weekends I'm usually back at my parents house in Nazareth Illit (an hour's drive), where couchsurfing conditions are *much* nicer (older description about those follows).
***************
I used to live with my parents, but don't be alarmed, they are very nice and inviting people. I have a spare room with an opening bed, So I can accommodate 2 people (more if it's an emergency). I don't have any pets, and no one here smokes (and if you do smoke, do so outside). There are several buses coming into this town from Tel Aviv, Haifa and Afula. I am usually free to show you around. I go to bed somewhat late (midnight or so). I have sheets, blankets etc. Friends (28)

How I Participate in CS2I try to host as much as my studies allow me, I have a great deal of fun at the CS meetings when they're in Haifa, and hopefully this summer I'll be having my first CS trip through Europe.CouchSurfing ExperienceUnfortunately I didn't have many, since I pretty much discovered the site shortly before burying myself in the all-consuming Technion. However, attending my first little CS gathering in Haifa I've met several nice people from my home town. I convinced one of the lovely attendees there she should come to the Kinneret with me, and I got a great short road-trip through the north of Israel as a result, the next day. And a new friend.InterestsOff the top of my head - traveling, meeting travelers, amateur photography, reading, BP debating, hiking, music, dancing, going to SciFi conventions, and some more.PhilosophyI don't really have one; the closest thing I could think of was that on my deathbed, I want to be able to quote Fritz the Cat:
"My soul is tormented! I've been up and down the four corners of this big old world! I've seen it all! I've done it all! I've fought many a good man, and laid many a good woman! I've had riches and fame and adventure...I've tasted life to the fullest, and still my heart cries out, yes, cries out in this hungry, tortured, wrecked quest: 'More!'"Music, Movies, BooksMy main cultural experience is literature, and this divides into two parts - Science Fiction (mainly "hard", like Asimov, Heinlein, Niven, etc. etc.) and just eclectic things, whatever comes to hand - lately, mostly more 20th-century classics.
In movies, I don't have a specific taste; but I'd have to say that the best movie of all times is probably "2001: A Space Odyssey".
Music-wise, it seems I mostly like Israeli rock at this period in time, such as The Biluim, Berry Sakharof, Ehud Banai and the likes. But every now and then a new thing gets on playlist - lately, it's Gogol Bordello and Bob Dylan. If you really want to know what I'm listening to nowadays, go here: last.fm/user/shlevich/chartsTypes of People I enjoyAlmost all of you.
In the context of CS, I particularly enjoy people who have great life-stories or travel-stories to tell. Teach, Learn, ShareWould be happy to teach anything that has to do with computer science and maybe a bit of programming - and would really love it if someone finally taught me how to play the harmonica. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or DoneZip lined over a small lake in Michigan.Opinion on the CouchSurfing.com ProjectA simply wonderful concept.Locations TraveledTRAVELED: Germany, Israel, Lithuania, Turkey, United States LIVED: Israel WANTS TO GO: Iceland, Ireland References
From Julija Gvardinskaitė Kaunas, Lithuania Jul 16 Positive We firstly met on LastFm. Soon after that I came to Israel and we met for real at the concert of Oy Division. From the very first minute Beny seemed to me as a very nice and warm person. I also went to the party at his place in Nazareth Illit and I really enjoyed this experience. Beny is a very fun guy and so are his friends. His couch was also a comfortable one :)
Looking forward to meeting all the "crew" again!

From Benjamin Netzer Haifa, Israel Jul 29, 2007 Positive Well... there are lot of good things I could say about Beny... how to keep it short?!?
We met several times in very different environments, and he amazes me over and over again.
He is very simple and easy-going, funny, cool, compassionate and jovial: just the kind of guy one likes to hang out with!
Yet, he can be very serious, warm, caring and sure is very helpful, so all in all just the kind of guy I really love to have as a friend.
If one asks me about the best idea I ever had: it was going to his party - otherwise I might never have met him. |
