Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
Couch Available: Yes Preferred Gender: Any Max Surfers Per Night: 3
Shared Sleeping Surface: Depends Shared Room: DependsThe couch is a separate bedroom with two twin beds (one twin bed and a twin pull out bed underneath). So if you are one sufer, you have your own room. If you are two more more surfers, you are sharing the room. As noted, there is a twin bed and a twin-size pullout bed underneath it. if you decide to do so, you can share the "top" bed, which many a couple have opted to do because it's fairly wide for a "twin".
My couch is available from November 29 until December 20th and then starting from January 2009. I will be out of town either just after Christmas or during NYE...
Even if my couch is not available, I am almost always free to meet up for coffee and there is always something happening so please do watch for postings on the LA County Group board!
Fellow couchsurfers,
Just a few things to keep in mind when you request my couch:
- Like many in the CS community, I'm in this to experience meaningful connections with people from all over the globe.
- I enjoy sharing time together as we get to know each other and exchange our life stories, or even just travel stories if that's all you're up for...
- I'm always ready to offer whatever insider tips or support that I can
- SO: when you write your couch request, you should address me personally ...
- It's not hard to find out what my first name is - just read some of the references people have left me.
- I can host for a maximum 2 nights a week (some exceptions can be made but only after you're surfing with us).
- Weekends are the best time for hosting but email me to check otherwise.
- It's probably best if you have a car to get around but if you're ok with commuting by bus in LA, you are more than welcome to stay...
- we are two people in this house, my mom and myself
about the couch:
the "couch" is located in the northwest end of LA Two people reside in this house - my mom and myself We have a spare bedroom that we make available for couchsurfers The house also includes a kitchen, garden, a pool and a bbq, which you will also have access to We'll provide you with sheets, blankets and towels, and we have a full sized washer and dryer if you need to catch up on your laundry.
our neighborhood: West Hills. This part of the city is located 40 minutes from LAX, 25 minutes from MALIBU, HOLLYWOOD, SANTA MONICA and PASADENA. Easy access to major freeways... and even better, very close to some beautiful hiking and biking trails
The 'hood/the couch is best reached by car but arrangements to pick you up from within Los Angeles can be made.
If you're landing in an orange county airport, this is not the couch for you...
in general: Even if I can't host at my home, I can provide a ride to and from CS events...and I'm happy to meet people and show them around the city. Day treks outside of LA are also always a fun thing to do...
There is so much to see and explore here in LA, both mainstream and off the beaten path and I look forward to sharing this with you...

Personal Description my personal story begins in the city of Haifa and continues in L.A. after leaving home and doing the college thing, I returned to my Israeli roots... and that Israel thing lasted over 8 years... then I went to NYC, which is where I got the degree that helped me become "who i want to be when i grow up": a social worker who empowers others to bring change into their lives on an individual, community and societal level Currently, I am based in LA. who knows where I will be next...feel free to ask me about it
I believe photos speak louder than words,
...I learned the other day how to start a fire without matches ... and I recently became a member of the Ktown Karaoke Krew!... all the more reason to be active in your local CS commmunity
things I like include: intimate conversation, dinner with friends, randomness, graffiti art, hiking in the Santa Monica mountains, last minute indy rock shows, pirate camping along the Kineret, parties at friends'houses, ideological discourse, Tel Aviv, photography on a gray day, biking through central park, political protests, hot cocoa on a rainy day, happy hours, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, taco trucks, Astoria, Greek Frappes at 2am in Astoria, getting silly, midnight movies...
....and I love meeting and spending time with people, hearing their stories, and sharing a wonderful experience together as a host, a surfer and quite possibly a friend How I Participate in CS2I am currently coordinating the CS Cares project and I also volunteer as a City Ambassador.
I find that CS is very much a part of who I am today...I host, I couchsurf, I travel, I party with other sufers... and there's always a CS event or 2 each week - both planned and random... I am especially happy to see the bonds of my local CS community grow stronger each day...
....I am really looking forward to what comes next... CouchSurfing Experience I feel blessed to continually meet people that are warm, genuine, interesting, fun, smart, exciting and any other positive superlative you can think of. seriously
... and I continue to be amazed at both the connectivity and reciprocity I have experienced, for which I am very grateful
Interestsdisaster response, humanitarian aid, camping, hiking, photography, cooking, chowhounding, sharing recipes, sharing moments of joy, Judaism, social justice, international affairs, film, music, experiencing and learning from other cultures, philosophy, sprituality, Peace in the Middle East, and of course I'm alway interested in learning something new as well as relearning something old...Philosophyבקש שלום ורדפהו.
Seek peace And pursue it
Music, Movies, BooksMusic plays an important part in my life and I listen to a broad range of stuff most frequently, I listen to whatever is streaming on KCRW, some current faves include MGMT, Trampled by the Turtles, Gotan Project, Sufjan Stevens, Polyphonic Spree, Berri Sacharov, Panda Bear, LCD Soundsystem and Caribou...
in terms of TV, if I really want to watch it, I can netflix it or somehow get a hold of it. and youtube and facebook are equally entertaining...
My movie taste also is very broad ~ past membership to the Jerusalem Cinemateque gave me access and exposure to such a wonderful range of films. Notable favorites are The Shawshank Redemption, Amelie, Monsoon Wedding, the original Star Wars trilogy, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Black Cat White Cat and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
current faves/must-reads are The Yiddish Policemen's Union, Eat Love Pray, The Kite Runner, The Bookseller of Kabul, all of Harry Potter, The Spirit Catches you and you fall down, and The Ladies Auxiliary
Types of People I enjoyIn general, People that like to have a good time doing interesting things, that are curious by nature, open to other cultures, have an interesting story to share, enjoy discussing world issues with the understanding of the inevitable personal bias.
Foodies are of course always welcome since I love to cook, try new foods and chit chat over the nitty gritty details of every dish. Teach, Learn, ShareSo I love learning from other people - from your travel stories and from your personal life stories, there is so much to pick up from in terms of ideas and self-learning... I am especially interested in learning more about mindfulness and nonviolent communication
I enjoy cooking together and sharing a meal of wonderful home cooked food, and I am always ready to share my recipes.
I'd like to learn more languages ~ I can teach you Hebrew in exchange...
...also, anyone with questions about social work as a profession or grad school in social work is welcome to ask.

From Sara Engstrand Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 11, 2007 Positive Miri is a great host and a wonderfull guide! In a very short time she shared her knowledge of the area and the social system and at the same time showed me all kinds of wow LA-sights.
From whoopkat Oakland, United States Nov 1, 2007 Positive Miri is very passionate about environmental issues and doesn't hide it. She seems to be a gracious hostess and it's worth the effort to trek out and check out her hood.
From Andres Castro Indio, United States Oct 12, 2007 Positive Miri kind and caring and up for road trips and meetings with other couchsurfers. Met her at the LA Bonfire. We were there early and she was helping out with all the planning and set up. We met up at the Arizona Trip to Monument Valley and Antelope canyon. She can do a road trip with lots of people and always has interesting things to talk about. Plus she is not afraid odf a little camping and roughing it. Miri lets see where else we meet again.
