Groups I Belong ToCouch Information
No couch currently available for surfing. I live at the CS Basecamp near UC Berkeley and have been very busy recently. I feel as though I would not be a good hang-out buddy as I'm not able to give much time to people who ask, so I've removed 'Coffee or a Drink' from my profile for now.
There are members of the Basecamp who are available to hang out for coffee; maybe I can meet you for a few minutes to say hi if you're with them. I hope that after the beginning of November I will be able to meet up with you again. Friends (239)

Personal Description I’m a seagull – no, I’m an actress. Yes. Well, it doesn’t matter…he doesn’t believe in theater. He laughed at my dreams, until finally I stopped believing in them. I lost heart…and there were the anxieties of love and jealousy, and worrying about the baby. I became narrow and trivial. My acting was bad. I didn’t know what to do with my hands. I couldn’t even stand properly on stage, or control my voice. You can’t imagine what it’s like to know you’re acting badly. I’m a seagull…no, that’s not what I mean…Do you remember you shot a seagull once? A man came along, saw a seagull and destroyed it for fun. That’s a subject for a short story. No, that’s not what I mean…what was I saying? My acting. I’m not like that now. I’m a real actress. I enjoy it, I revel in it. I’m intoxicated onstage, and feel beautiful there. Ever since I’ve been home I’ve been walking, walking and thinking, feeling my mind and spirit getting stronger every day. I know now, Kostya, what matters in our work. What matters for a writer or an actor is not fame, glory, or other things I dreamed about, but knowing how to endure – how to bear your cross and have faith. I have faith now, and it’s not so painful anymore. When I think about my calling, I’m not afraid of life. -Anton Chekhov, The Seagull

I only leave a reference if I hosted, surfed, or traveled with you (of course, if I know you "too" well, I may also not leave you a reference ;). If you leave me a reference after having met me for 2 hours, or even a couple of times, I will not leave one for you. Please do not take it personally. I prefer to leave references based on hosting or surfing!CouchSurfing ExperienceIt's been a way of life since college. I much prefer waking up & having a friend in the next room to being in a sterile hotel!
Because of my living situations I've surfed far more than I've hosted. I long to host! I desire to be a host! Unfortunately that's rarely possible. The very few times I've done it have been awesome. Someday, again...Interests Theater, film, politics, over-extending myself, tall buildings in big cities, the middle of nowhere, environmentalism, writing, feminism, humanism, activism, Really Good Food (my favorite food group is 'fried'), hanging out in natural settings, metaphors, truth being stranger than fiction, swearing like a #$%!ing sailor, natural remedies/healing, karaoke, philosophizing, regional dialects, other countries, doof-ism (it's my own thang), driving on the left, burning lots of incense, history, taking bubble baths avec tea & a magazine, the Great Barrier Reef, sleeping on public transportation, current events, wine vodka gin & beer (not in that order), walking barefoot, avant garde anything, being cryptic, exotic cheeses, tarot, collecting metaphysically imbibed rocks, internet searches, acupuncture, old warehouses, Catherine the Great, having moments & letting them go, people watching, lounging in bookstores, Baked Oaty Slices, the beauty of right now.
Philosophy The world will take care of you if you let it. It gives you what you need, when you need it - good and bad. Embrace the wonderful things and let them embrace you back. No matter how bad things seem, there are lessons to be learned, strength to be gained, and you will never be given more than you can handle. One thing leads to another - 'fate' is not my thing, but missing that bus could change your life. Every single thing that we have experienced in our lives have led us to the exact moment we're having now - this conversation, that nap time, this amazing job offer, that horrible argument - every single moment has contributed to your experience in this moment. One different turn & you could be living a very different life right now! Embrace it. Everything means something, but don't think about it; just let it be, let it flow, acknowledge quietly, & let it contribute further. Nothing is as important as you think it is at the time, and the tiniest bits are massive impressions. We are all in this together.

Types of People I enjoy Artists, intellectuals, revolutionaries, other CouchSurfers! story-tellers, truth-tellers, heads of state, soon-to-be-toppled heads of state, snugglers, healers, gurus, rabble-rousers, people who talk rather than chit-chat, that guy who salsa dances avec a life-size doll in the NYC subway stations, non-conformists, musicians, people who know themselves, humble people, wild people, intense people, Good people, zippy people, poets, the witty, pet owners, people who understand loss, people who understand gain, alchemists, spitfires, anyone who creates something positive, people who've been ripped apart & put themselves back together, financial wizards, mystics, anyone avec passion, anyone open-minded, debaters, tree huggers, carnivores, vegans, vegetarians, rastafarians, people who can come & go & feel like no time has passed, wonder-finders, busy people, imaginative freaks. One Amazing Thing I've Seen or Done Hehehehehe - "one"...Living in a castle in the Netherlands & the various antics & ghosts, peaks & valleys, moments & journeys that resulted. Having been to Prague before I'd been there. The love between everyone in New York City after 9-11. Watching Vanessa Redgrave perform in "Long Day's Journey Into Night" on Broadway. The Leonid Meteor shower, Fall 2001. Hale-Bopp in Venice from a water taxi. Kayaking at Milford Sound, NZ. A private nighttime tour avec someone In The Know at the Louvre (pre DaVinci Code). Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef. Every gorgeous sunset. All the synchronistic moments in my life that remind me I'm alive.
Opinion on the CouchSurfing.com Project I adore it. How else can you meet people who've lived in Antarctica, done community work in Cambodia, who share your life philosophies from almost every continent, in every walk of life, who've seen everything you want to see, all in one wee little community? I'm not sure you can be involved in something like this and say is HASN'T changed your life somehow.

From THE BABY SNAKE Sarasota, United States Nov 28 Positive Such a sweet heart! I met Rachel at the Berkley Collective before I started my bike trip down south for the winter. She was such a gem, busy working but very kind all the same. Shared a few meals and a few drinks later that week and couldn't ask for much more! A lovely lady to have met and hopefully see again the Costa Rica Collective!
From JC Allenby Portland, United States Nov 16 Positive Rachel is very lively and vivacious! A solid head on her shoulders I was very impressed to see how much she is doing for the organization! From ExiledInHeaven Cork, Ireland (Republic of) Oct 6 Positive Really pleasant ...
I met the rachel for lunch, she showed me around CS Base Camp; we met a previous surfer I hosted who happened to live across the road (you couldn't be making this up!) in Hippie Heaven ... just some real nice time. Lovely woman.

From Jonah Gropper San Francisco, United States Oct 2 Positive Yes, yes, yes! Be there now

From Nick Racz Las Vegas, United States Aug 28 Positive When I first met Rachel I was greeted with a big smile and a big hug- a great welcome to a new and unfamiliar place. She is a very insightful person who speaks her mind and would often help me to see different sides of a story. I very much enjoyed our one on one conversations and hope to see her again in the future.
From T.J. Kelly Kamloops, Canada Aug 21 Positive Had a wonderful time with Rachel, especially during the trip back to Anchorage! Lovely sharing tacos with you... among other things.
From Damon Burden East Falmouth, United States Aug 10 Positive Rachel is a really positive, fun, outgoing person, I had a blast in Homer hanging with the cool people
From TeDeVan Kurzweil New York, United States Aug 9 Positive on the streets and then a few get togethers and a few great chance encounters along the way. Connecting dots around the world
From Carlos M. Cardenas Sevilla, Spain Aug 8 Positive When I first met Rach I was impressed by how friendly and welcoming she was. Later, I was impressed by how hard worker she is and her devotion to CS. Later, she impressed me again with her good spirit and the good times we shared at the Collective. After that, I was not impressed anymore: I understood she is a superb human being, one of this rare golden hearts and souls you find sometimes in your lifetime. I am happy to be friends with her and willing to meet her in the future.
From Cécile Berne Grenoble, France Jul 17 Positive I had the pleasure to give a massage to Rachel at the Collective in Homer and I saw in her a beautiful young woman… somewhat nervous, but for sure an easy-going person with a pronounced taste of enjoying life !
From Melly-Mel Udon Thani, Thailand Jul 4 Positive Rachel is one of those hundreds that you meet randomly, but are never quite gone from your heart (even if you get a replacement heart when your eighty.) After a year or so of working with her indirectly on Amb. forums she made collective experience and Chiang Mai travel experience the best I have ever had! She is passionate about all that she does, as well as sensitive and pragmatic, which not only make me say she is one of the coolest, supportive travel partners I have had, but one of the best friendship connections I have made in this Cs world where we nomads fly far and fast like monsoons or arctic winds. Well dear amazing women... I hope that our weather-patterns of cloudy random fun and long conversations run into each other again somewhere soon on the globe.... maybe the pacific northwest perhaps??! You always have a couch in my heart... and so much more.
From WENDYY Breda, Netherlands Jun 29 Positive the Rachel Rocks :)The world gets energy from people like her ...
thanks for a great time in Homer, hope to meet up with you again some day!
From DIAMONDINLONDON Harrow, United Kingdom Jun 14 Positive Rachel is one of the hardest working volunteers for CouchSurfing I've met - not only did we work at the Thai Collective together for 2 months in 2008 but we also shared the same house for all that time. She'd work well into the early hours of the morning at the collective and has given so much to the cause. She's such fun to hang out with and has lots of entertaining stories of past collectives to tell as well as being the perfect housemate.
From Bill Campbell Anchorage, United States Jun 8 Positive Rachel is a charming and gregarious person and a joy to be around.
From Naz Gassiep Wheelers Hill, Australia May 15 Positive Rachel is a really fun person to hang out with. She's interesting and funny and you always know what she's thinking because her brain is directly connected to her mouth with no filter in between, which makes her the best person to ask when you want to know if your new haircut looks good!
From Giang Le Hanoi, Vietnam Apr 29 Positive She is very sweet, good listener, humourous and extremely beautiful ha ha^^.Nice to talk to you in HN couchsurfing. I will try to speak Italian better than you:P

From Honey Varindaravej Bangkok, Thailand Apr 7 Positive I missed Rachel already after she left Bangkok to work in Pai : ) Hope we will meet again so soon,I learned the flapping Rachel xoxo it makes me warm and happy in my heart.Definitely host her if you have a change :-)

From Charish Badzinski La Crosse, United States Mar 22 Positive Rachel is a ball of energy--always on the move, shaking things up to make them better, striving to find perfection in her volunteer work with CS.
I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to know her, and any CouchSurfer would be lucky to do the same. She's one of the primary players in this game of global awareness and she lives the mission.
From Douglas Deleu Aalter, Belgium Mar 12 Positive Rachel is one of a kind. First impression, yeah, she talks a lot and is very active so you won't get bored for sure. I always compare her to the overactive happy squirrel of the movie "over the hedge" she also kinda does the same thing when she drinks energy drinks. But she is also very loving and caring and she was a super roommate in the Thailand collective. In the Karaoke bars she steals the show, while fishing she is calm and quite. The more I know her the more I love to be around here and its always a pleasant surprise find out a new side of her.
From Benjamin Ranta Ishpeming, United States Feb 28 Positive Rachel is communicative, straightforward, silly, entertaining, and sophisticated. She's tenacious in her responsibilities to the CouchSurfing community. Thanks Rachael for all the fond memories in Pai. I hope to see you again.
From XDEAN Paris, France Feb 11 Positive Rachel is a very friendly girl, plenty of energy!!! I remember her flapping when seeing monks in Bangkok ;)
Too bad we finally didn't take a picture of us together! Next time!
From Crystal Murphy Birmingham, United States Jan 6 Positive Rachel is by far one of the most AMAZING people I have had the joy of meeting. She is friendly, helpful, & delightfully charming! I adore her! Finally having the chance to meet her after months of working with her was worth it! She is so silly and marvelous! Her dedication to CS is also extremely admirable! Rachel....by far you are truly an amazing person! Thanks so much for everything :)
PS You should compliment her on her hat if you get a chance ;)
From Amy Jackson New York, United States Jan 2 Positive Rachel would be the sort of person that you might expect would invite you over to the apt she's subletting from a wood sculptor in Chelsea to pillage her collection of theatrical books and scripts for whatever you can carry with you because she's going to Thailand next month. Anyway, she is that sort of person. And by that, I mean that she's wonderfully unexpected, and somehow adds a touch of whimsy to any situation she happens to be in, be it with stickers, purple glasses, or bits of the French language strewn about conversation. You might also spot her at a screening of a movie musical uptown when least expected - she tends to pop in and out like that. May she pop into my life a little more often upon her return to the States.
From Nicky Pallas New York, United States Dec 22, 2007 Positive Rachel I'm leaving you a reference in spite of the fact that you prefer references only from hosting/surfing experiences. And I'm giving you "extremely" positive too! Even though I know you have the power to delete this! Ha, I'll write it anyway!
Rachel is a great person to meet if you ever happen to be wherever she is in the world. She has a great sense of dedication to keeping CS a safe place and doing good things for all of us on here. A good friend to have here in NY!
Now I'm just waiting for you to implement into CS the great ideas I gave you!!
From Fabian Winter Bremen, Germany Dec 16, 2007 Positive It was so funny to talk to Rachel about our very special friend. The world is so small....
From Seth Wright New York, United States Dec 3, 2007 Positive It's now been about a year since I first met Rachel and for most of the time she's been roaming the world away from New York (I approve of the roaming, but the abandoning NYC part has got to change) ;-) I've hosted her once, and spoken with her more and I can say without a doubt she's a passionate and caring individual. I hope to host her and see her many more times before she leaves New York again :-)
And for the short term she's my neighbor so hopefully for the next couple months we'll finally get to hang out a bit more. Survivor Man is on almost every day at my house :-)
From Marcus Eder Vienna, Austria Oct 31, 2007 Positive Although I do not always agree with Rachel I love to talk with her about CS and safety. Some things I guess are cultural and solutions should fit for other cultures as well than just people from States (and maybe Europe)
Looking forward to meet her in real life...
:-)
From Soul Vibration Lille, France Sep 19, 2007 Positive when i have lot of questions, she speak with me, with pleasure, so nice
see you next in north of france
From IMENSA Maia, Portugal Aug 2, 2007 Positive I've met Rach by a CS issue and a problem I had and asked for her help. She responded and helped me promptly, and even kept on following my case.
She is reliable, helpful and kind, a true CS admin. Above all, she's so friendly! Def. my fav. admin!:)))
From Gionata Nencini Auckland, New Zealand Jul 22, 2007 Positive Met Rachel at Raminta's place in Brisbane while i was surfing her couch. Rachel is a really welcoming and warm person. I got impressed by her strong hug and friendly kiss.
An embrace.
gionata
From SimplyMiri Los Angeles, United States Jul 13, 2007 Positive I only spent an evening with Rachel so far but it was fascinating to hear about the NZ collective and the ideas being developed. When talking about CS, Rachel just appeared 100% in her element.
From Suzie Sims-fletcher Astoria, United States Jul 12, 2007 Positive THE RACHAEL is a small explosive ball of energy and enthusiasm with outbursts of laughter and caretaking.
From JOAO MARTINS Pinhal Novo, Portugal Jul 2, 2007 Positive Rachel really impressed me with her dedication to CS. She is talhative and for fure a " SECURE " perrson, :-) .

Very openminded and for sure a great woman !!!
Don't try to put any frog inside the bottle...Mikky try it, and he can't do it!!! Hahahahaha.
From D_JAN Amsterdam, Netherlands Jun 19, 2007 Rachel is talkative, vivid, active, crazy, multi-langual (even some Dutch!) : yep, she sure is good fun!
From MIKKY MOUTH Sankt Nikola an der Donau, Austria Jun 17, 2007 Positive The Jersey Girlknow this song? no? go and meet Rachel and you will know this song anyway without listening.
Our path´s have crossed quite often but only online until now, i am really really grateful that she took the ride to come over to Lyndhurst to visit me in Jersey, that was super sweet.it was like you meet an old friend on the street like "hey how you doing sister" as i met her on the street, like old strength, like a common history, she is a one of kind lady, for sure - the need for a next meet is already there.
From Daniel Hoffer Menlo Park, United States Jun 14, 2007 Positive Rachel is a sweet, warm-hearted girl who seems delightfully care-free on the surface, but somehow manages to take her work for Couchsurfing very seriously. She is an actress at heart, with a curious habit of substituting the word "with" with the French translation, "avec." Rachel definitely lightens the mood in many social gatherings.
From Aldo Golja Rotterdam, Netherlands Jun 12, 2007 Positive Rachel and I work on the safety team. Not only that, but sometimes we look like a married couple. 'Here, let me spank you', 'you can't eat with chopsticks, I'll get you a fork'...
She's got a big heart, a great feeling of right and wrong and she is very caring for her friends. Add a touch of drama and uncanning humor to it and you've got the great Rachel!
From Maski Haile Montreal, Canada May 22, 2007 Positive It was really nice seeing her in Nelson again, too bad it was just too short
From Kristen W Auckland, New Zealand May 19, 2007 Positive Rachel has a massive heart and lots of energy! She is a great person who haas a passion for CS and people. Have had some nice chats with her. Great person - See you in the US!
From dominika1980 Auckland, New Zealand May 16, 2007 Positive I was happy to have Rachel around for a few days. She helped me limit my computer time by LOTS. Everyone knows Rachel is good company and she really cares about Couchsurfers. HOPE THINGS GO WELL FOR YOU AND MAY YOUR TRAVELS ALWAYS BE SAFE!
From JAROCHA Redondo Beach, United States May 14, 2007 Positive we exchanged a few lines, and yet she made a big impression on me, Rachel will be an interesting friendship to pursue so that hopefully one day we can really meet as 'old friends'. her enthusiasm was refreshing and listening to her stories was fun and interesting. she had just arrived to Los Angeles from lands far far away, and still was up to meet other CSrs.
From Leonardo Bassani da Silveira Vila Velha, Brazil May 9, 2007 Positive The lives of most people are like the grass – only the trees catch the storm, and they experience a great deal, but the grass experiences practically nothing.
From YEAHLENA Zurich, Switzerland May 9, 2007 Positive I loved the quiet moments I had with Rachel sitting in front of our house enjoying the lovely night and talks. I've seen her enthusiasm for CS and how much energy she puts into, she was so focused that I had to pull her out of the house from time to time =) I hope you are having the best travels and I might see you sooner than we thought in NY!!
From WILDDUCK Nimbin, Australia May 2, 2007 Positive any one who loves eating meat pies has gotta be so special, rachel took temporary ownership of the couch in wildduck's cafe where she dedicated her time and life to admin. of couchsurfing.... when she was leaving i was wishing she was not as we had only limited time to hang out and i just know how special rachel is and i felt it... shine on rachel and thanks for being you
From Sara Losten Farsta, Sweden Apr 24, 2007 Positive rachel is sensitive to what goes on around her aswell as what goes on inside - both mentally and spiritually. she finds herself well in every situation and can relate to most anyone. i'm very glad to have met her.
From Bruno Boulandet Paris, France Apr 23, 2007 Positive Rachel is someone I can't work with, whatever how hard I try ! Rachel is someone I can hardly get the attention from for more than 10 seconds in a row, or I have to contact her via a computer ! Rachel ate all my chocolate (she actually did) ! Rachel reacts like a delusional paranoid everytime I talk about her work for CS ! Rachel is messy ! Rachel is New from York, worse she's proud of it !
Despite all this (and probably more I prefer to forget), my extremely positive reference is no mistake. I love Rachel to bits :) Rachel is rad ! No, she defines rad ! She's a breeze, a wind of happiness, a well of joy and generosity, a shamelessly crazy person, far too tiny to physically have such a big heart
I'm so happy I met you Rach, and had some time with you on the roads :) I know I will see you again, even if we were bound to miss each other in Australia ! I miss your fantastic messages (How about a little bit tonight, tomorrow night, & Friday morning...) so much :)
From Susanna Gibson Brighton, United Kingdom Apr 21, 2007 Positive Was brilliant to catch up with Rachel again in Byron Bay after our first encounter in Nelson NZ. Rachel is a beautiful person and we shared some great chats and good times in Byron and at Wild Ducks place in Nimbin. Look forward to hearing more from your story and hope to meet again soon.
From Christopher Ayling Vancouver, Canada Apr 16, 2007 Positive Rachel's laughter should be on everyone's things to experience before you die list. She is more than worth meeting she's worth spending as much time as possible with. I know I will be seeing her again. Even if I have travel into the US to do it...
From Hillary Murray Menlo Park, United States Apr 12, 2007 Positive Rach is... fun, loud, dramatic, sensitive, trustworthy, sweet, chatty, giving, and well, a bit zany. I like her. I also admire her huge love of all things couch- she's a dedicated woman indeed.
From Joshua Adair Austin, United States Apr 9, 2007 Positive The Rache know how to laugh. A lot. And Im pretty sure its not stage-fake-laughing, she generally just knows how to laugh with and at life and herself and make things pretty light. She sings some killer Bon Jovi covers too.
From Kirsty Sarah Christchurch, New Zealand Apr 1, 2007 Positive No one can pull off a pair of clue fishnets, and an orange 70s shirt/dress as well as this girl! She has the strength of the Gods and spaceships shall crumble in her presence. There's so many wonderful things you can say about the rach, but to keep it short she's simply wonderful and I'm so glad she rocked our world for the weekend.
From KEITHWANDERS Atlanta, United States Mar 30, 2007 Positive I think Rachel swallowed lightning as a child. That's the only way to explain that light in her eyes. And then there's that laugh that fills up an entire room. Hmm... maybe she's a pixie. Either way, I just want to give her a bear hug everytime I see her.
From SARACANUCK Toronto, Canada Mar 28, 2007 Positive She is not only my cousin, but one of the most impressive women in my life. She can't keep still and swears like a motha@#%*& sailor, believes in a better world and may just be able to transfigure some of it with her electric spirit!
From Andrew Lai Grande Prairie, Canada Mar 25, 2007 Positive Nothing, but f***ing rad in the her own words. She's just like a fun filled, action packed adventure, in a small 5'3" package.
From REDZSTAR London, United Kingdom Mar 15, 2007 Rachel is gorgeous and so keen for interaction & fun. She gives off positive energy.
From Sebastien Le Tuan San Jose, United States Mar 9, 2007 Positive loving, considerate, and of course, dramatic ;) rachel is one of a kind and I had the pleasure to get to know her while at the Montreal Collective.
From NORAHS2009 Petaling Jaya, Malaysia Mar 9, 2007 Positive Rachel was the first to give me a welcome hug at the collective. She's hilarious, over the top in a low key manner (yes that is possible!) and always there with a listening ear and making sure everyone's ok and sane. Never failing to make me laugh with her dead-pan delivery of one liners sometimes! We shall meet somewhere someday again Rach! SAFETY IS FUN! :p
From Richard Jeong Washington, United States Mar 8, 2007 Positive The Rachel. Not the roach, not rachel0923, but the rachel. Thank goodness she's on my side for safety and security. Although she does seem to be free and happy about her million dollar breasts. Perhaps you should ask her about them, or more likely she'll tell you about them. :D A wise mamma jama, and I hope to see her as she flys through my part of the wood here in DC. Perhaps we can demonstrate more reasons for scrawny people not to hook-up. hehe
From Philip Seidenberg Austin, United States Mar 4, 2007 Positive Genuine. Some people don't need wispy details to be described. This woman is heart, perseverance, wit, beauty
From Matthew Nash Crawley, United Kingdom Mar 3, 2007 Positive hm..interesting, talented and sensitive. and a bit too hard on herself? i think she perceives way more than she lets on. :)
From Tridivesh Hitkar New Delhi, India Mar 2, 2007 Positive Rachel does derserve much much more than what I can write. One thing, I must must write that she is always there to reply to everyone's email. An amazing person, a real CS ambassador and a true CS administrator. I would love to meet Rachel and learn something from her. You are such a wonderful woman. Thanks so so much for being there always for me.
From DIGS Portland, United States Feb 28, 2007 Positive TheRachel is a deeply caring and compassionate person. And how do you fit that into these little reference boxes? It still boggles me... give yourself a long hug, laugh out loud, and smoke a cigarette with a big beautiful smile on your face. That's a bit of TheRachel. I hope to get to know her better.
