About this Wiki
We know that CouchSurfing.com is a service that helps you find free places to stay and great people to hang out with when you are traveling. It's more than that though. The stated mission of CouchSurfing 2.0 is to internationally network people and places, create educational exchanges, raise collective consciousness, spread tolerance and facilitate cultural understanding. A wiki is a perfect tool for this purpose.
A wiki is a collectively authored website that you define and create! The CouchSurfing Wiki uses the same structure and is a part of the same RW community as Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit. By clicking this link, you can alter this very sentence (right?), right now! (i did it, i did it!)(here, let me try!) Also check out the Sandbox!
Did you know...
This Wiki won't write itself. And it isn't being written by an appointed council of professionals. Every page and article on this Wiki has been added by many people like you, working in cooperation with each other, building on each other's knowledge and enthusiam. So what are you waiting for? Jump right in and add to a page where you want to see improvement, or create a new page. Don't be afraid of making a mistake. You can always undo your edits, and it's really really hard to break stuff! ;) If you need more direction, you can visit the help page, or contact users willing to help. Remember, you're a part of a team, so don't refrain from leaving your comments on talk pages, or at the Wiki community page. If you are already experienced, you might want to help out where help is needed, or work on one of the many stubs.

2008
- 2008-26-09: Peter Heesakkers who was graduated in June this year with his research on CouchSurfing is nominated for two thesis awards in the Netherlands. in his research he links several theories and tourism practices with CouchSurfing and revised tourism models from Plog and Cohen in order to apply on the practice of CouchSurfing and the changing nature of tourism.
- 2008-05-09: The Braderie de Lille, the biggest Braderie in Europe will be organised during all the first week end of september. The CS Community of Lille will make a stand for this event. Check the meeting page for more details, and don't hesitate to join us !
- 2008-05-20: The french Couchsurfers are writing their new French CS Newsletter for french speaking people, describing the France CS Organisation and the CS activity in France. The english version of this letter is coming next !
- 2008-02-21: Huge downtime of CouchSurfing. Instead of the planned "2 hour maintenance" downtime (this time announced in advance) it persisted until 2008-02-22, noon. In the meantime there was a error message displayed when trying to load the CouchSurfing site telling about small "hiccups" being resolved at the moment and certainly being back on in short time. Back online in fact one and a half day later.
