Tips

You can find a lot of information about Amsterdam on the travelwiki and in the travelguides like Lonely Planet. But...the alternative scene of Amsterdam is hardly mentioned. Because it's worth mentioning, some tips: Amsterdam has quite a big alternative scene in which groups, random individuals and squatters are active. There are all kinds of activities like (cheap, healthy, tasty, mostly vegan) dinners, parties, film nights, discussion nights, exhibitions, etc. If you're interested you could check out the following websites:

CouchSurfers

There are quite some Couchsurfers in Amsterdam. Some of them host people and some of them are available for a coffee or a drink or maybe even to show people around the city. Most people in Amsterdam live in small rooms or apartments, sometimes together with other people and are therefore not always able to host. There's an Amsterdam group on the CS website. Hosts in Amsterdam get loads of Couchsurfing requests. To increase the chance to find a host it's good that people fill out their profile properly and send personal requests.

Stan Da Man is the self-proclaimed POTHEAD of Couchsurfing. Read his profile before requesting a couch and enjoy the experience. He even made it on national television.
