Decisions In some ways CouchSurfing is a do-ocracy or adhocracy, decentralized, ad-hoc, action-oriented.

For example:

  • The Group system, where everyone can participate in discussions
  • The Wiki
  • The publicly accessible (both read and write) Bug Tracker

CouchSurfing is a love-ocracy: as long as you're doing it for love, it's good.

In some ways CouchSurfing is an enlightened monarchy ruled by its founder, Casey.

Some say decisions about CouchSurfing should ideally be discussed and voted upon by the community.


Most things don't need decision. Everyone just does what they want and where conflicts arise they are resolved. issues involving the couchsurfing system must be fairly consistent and potential problems or disagreements should be worked out before they are put in place. I would suggest that future features being considered for full implementation should be in wiki form where appropriate and all CSers will be notified of potential changes and be guided to the wiki to inform themselves. If they have a problem they can bring it up. After a certain period of time the project would go right ahead. That sounds like a simple and equitable system to me. I don't expect that most users are interested in the development of new features but nor should they be excluded from having a say --Metal.lunchbox 16:23, 1 October 2006 (EST)
