Desires for Future Collectives

The statements and opinions on this page are solely those of its authors and do not necessarily represent the official position of CouchSurfing International.

I have found that who I live with affects how I live. I want to express my desires for any future collectives that I am to take part in:

  • I would like to be mostly with people who don't smoke. And who don't drink to get drunk. I don't mind social drinking at all.
  • I want to be surrounded by people who have strong principles and who try to live by them. I don't really care what those principles are, so long as I am with people who live deliberately. I like religious people, but also humanists, and scientists, and anyone else that lives successfully according to some kind of code. These people help me live by my own code.
  • I don't want to be with an "in crowd." I want to be with people who don't care about having friend links with Casey or Leo or Seb. I want to be with people that are driven by their artistic or personal or heartfelt vision, not by a desire to be popular or included. These kinds of people help remind me of my own strength.
  • I want to live with people that value, and are capable of, a deep interaction with their local community. People who can and regularly do hang out in a wide variety of scenes: farmers, prisons, schools, elderly communities, poor communities, etc.

I have found it difficult, here at the NZ Collective, to live with this group of people. They are totally friendly and nice, but they are not the crowd I would deliberately choose to live with. However, I love the idea of being deeply involved in CS going forward, so it is just a matter of setting up future collectives with people from the community who can support me with their lifestyle.
