Fredrikstad [1] is one of the largest cities in Norway with its nearly 71 000 thousand citizens. It was founded in 1567 by king Fredrik II of Denmark, hence the name Fredrikstad which was used from 1569. Fredrikstad has been an important city, with its brickworks and timber industry. Today the town center is located on the west side of Glomma and the fortress town on the east side.
