Welcome to Salzburg

How can I get to Salzburg? What can I do? Where can I go? Well, let's start the tour then :)

Getting here

Salzburg Airport If you take the bus it's about a 20 minute drive to the main trainstation of Salzburg. You take the Bus line number 2 direction "Obergniegl". A one way ticket costs you 1.80 Euros. (Tipp:: if you know your gonna need the bus all day buy a 24h ticket, that costs 4.20 Euros by the driver (3.60 E by any Traffik or Ticket Mashine)it will last you from the time you bought it till 24 hours on the next day. Very useful :)

The Train Station Here pretty much all busses go and can take you whereever you like! Timetables and Routes

Where can I go crazy????

Dancing

  • Republic - In the day it's a pretty good restaurant and café. Tuesday's they have Salsa nights and on Friday it's always free with mostly pretty good electronic music. On Saturday's it can be that they ask for entrance (mostly 5 Euros), according to the Event it can also be 10. But watch out! Drinks are pretty expensive.
  • Half Moon - That's right next to the Republic and is a pretty cool place. They have sofas you can ly on, a small dancefloor, but for that it has enough people to have fun with.
  • Shamrock - The most popular Irish Pub in Salzburg, situated on the "Rudolfskai", they have live music every night and usually also play cool stuff. You'll find all sorts of people in here and of all ages.
  • Zwei Stein- Our local gay bar. You have to pay 3€ entrance, but you get to pick a drink for that money, so it's ok. Good place to hang out, I've always had fun! They have poles!
  • Jazz It- It's 2 minutes from the train station and if there is an event it's a hell of an awesome place to go. They mostly have concerts or student organized parties, which is great. Entrance (depending on the event) from 3 Euros up.
  • Sega Bar- There are about three or four of these bars in Salzburg, two of them on the very popular "Rudolfskai" street. There are very much young people there and it's viewed as a trashy place, BUT: shots 1,20€ . Hellllloooo? Who can pass up an offer like that? On Friday and Saturday they ask for a little entrance fee.: 3€-5€.

Good Bars

  • O'Maileys - It's right next to the Shamrock, but it's very different. This place is more chillaxed, good music and you generally find more tourists. Thursday is Karaoke and boy... does that rock!

  • Bricks - A rock music bar by the "Linzergasse", kind of cave-ish.

Good Food

Cheap and Yummy -Best place would be "Indigo", they have Chicken Currys for 4,70€ Veggie Curry for 4,40€. Different kind of noodles (for example with coconut/chilli sauce) for 5,50€. They also have Sushi, good breakfast and salads. Important: if you are a student make sure to take your student ID and when you pay show it to them, you will get a 10% reduction.

Yummy -There is the Cuppn'ccino, situated in the middle of the "Linzergasse". They have amazing salads, good pizzas, Bruscetta and coffeeess.

-Conditorei Schatz, is my secret for cakes! OH MY GOSH, you have never tried something as delicious. It's one side street off of the ""Getreidegasse", they one a prize for this amazing little cake thing, it's the best thing I've ever had. Ask for a "Himbeersahne gefülltes Basaire".

-Afro Cafe, owned by the man that invented Red Bull. You'll find it at the right end of the "Getreidegasse". They has excellent food, I would suggest the Ribs for 10€. Their salads are also killer good!!

Job, Room, Dorm, Flee market??

It's in German, but there is a perfect website where all the students find their accommodation and jobs. (I found mine there =) ) It's : www.oeh-salzburg.at You have to go to "Börse" and then click on "Jobs" or "Wohungen" or whatever you are looking for :)
