Tuebingen

The statements and opinions on this page are solely those of its authors and do not necessarily represent the official position of CouchSurfing International.

Tuebingen is a university city in Germany about 45 minutes from Stuttgart by train. It has very nice architecture, several museums, a castle, a cafe culture, and a lively youth-oriented atmosphere. (Note: the city name is actually Tübingen. The correct way to write ü on a non-european keyboard is 'ue'.)

There is a couchsurfing group for Baden-Wuerttemberg as well as for Tübingen specifically.

Transportation

To get here, you probably want to take Deutsche Bahn (there are links on that page for multiple languages).

There is a direct bus to/from Stuttgart airport.

Since a lot of students leave Tuebingen on the weekend, you should have pretty good luck getting a ride with someone on Mitfahrzentrale or Mitfahrgelegenheit

Buses in the city and surrounding areas are run by NALDO

Things to do

Enjoy the architecture. There are a few museums, including a pretty impressive ethnographic museum in the castle. Go punting on the Neckar river. Go to a student party, listen to a jazz concert, have a pint or two in one of the many bars. See the monastery at Bebenhausen, or the fairy-tale castle Hohenzollern.

There's a tourist information office by the Neckarbruecke, the main bridge over the river. You can walk to the city center from the train station in about ten minutes, or you can take a bus.

Ask your host, or ask around, about any of the activities above.

Finding a flat for a long term stay

Tuebingen has a lot of student housing and WGs (shared apartments). A good place to look for WGs is http://www.wg-gesucht.de or the fliers posted at bus stops around town.
