"Massive update" coming soon?

I recently submitted a few minor concerns to support, and they've been quite responsive, much faster than a few weeks ago, and obviously taking my requests into account.

My Strasbourg trip is OK now, although it could have been a temporary glitch that auto-solved itself.

Incidentally, in one of the replies, support informed me that they are working on a "massive update". Let's keep fingers crossed...

Good news, Patrick!

Thanks for sharing.

Minor changes I’ve noticed today:

Tabs have been moved to the far left of the page.

No more delay accessing the 50s+community.

Verfication code sent to my email each time I join a community…hopefully nothing more than a bug.

For me all is very slow...the chat box is bugging every now and then since they put the feature for archive

I am curious to see the "massive update" actually!

The same delay for me to accessing +50, but I discovered the solution: go out and try again. It works!

Shortly after my last post, I lost all ability to log into the app using Facebook, Apple, or email. I verified that both my iOS and app versions are up to date, and I have deleted and reinstalled the app twice, but the issue persists. When I tried creating a new account as prompted, the app blocked me, stating my email and handle are already taken. Fortunately, I can still access my account via a web browser, but the app login remains completely broken.

Murphy's Law of App Updates...

I seems different bugs affect different members. Personally, I had the worst time logging in with "magic link", it almost never worked. For several weeks now, I don't have to log in anymore, either on the web or on iOS. I just updated the app on an Android phone I also use, I didn't even have to log after updating. I thought the problem was fixed for everyone. However, for a couple of days, I've often seen the "Unable to connect" message when I was indeed online, but the connection works anyway...

As for the group, I visit almost only on the web, using the saved link https://www.couchsurfing.com/c/communities/50s-travellers
The page opens instantly.
No issues from my phones.

I just noticed another inconsistency: the "Create community" feature is placed in the settings. How is this relevant? We already have the hosting status in the "Edit home" section, do they play dice to decide?

It's SLIGHTLY easier to log in these days (only takes clicking two or three times rather than five or six) and I almost never use my phone — always my laptop. But all that matters little when I'm still not getting requests because I won't pay. (And until they get rid of this horrible black background and increase the font size it's a terrible user experience.)

Karen, I wish I cold read the mind of people who designed this gloomy purple-and-black theme. They probably wanted a change from the white background we had before. In that sense, they nailed it. Some apps let you decide between night and day modes (or change automatically according to the sun), but it may have been too difficult to manage for the tech team.

I remember fuming against the light gray characters on white background, totally unreadable in sunlight. At least, contrast is now maximum, that's a positive effect.

BTW, I only now realize that clicking on the number of replies below a post creates a reply to that very post or comment. Learning every day...

Karen and @patch051

Dark interfaces are typically used for platforms with a multimedia focus, live streaming, or nighttime viewing, as they minimize peripheral distractions, allow for extended viewing, and enhance the contrast and brightness of videos: YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, Discord.

Platforms born in Light Mode are more "conservative" for young people, as they associate the interface with paper and traditional corporate clarity (Facebook, Reddit, LinkedIn, X), although many support Advanced Dual Support, which can be defined by the user.

I think Threads' interface is the best option because it integrates direct synchronization with the device's system, alternating between a pure white and a deep black without any intermediate decorative elements.

But it seems that the developers of Couchsurfing must be targeting young travelers, who connect at night after a day outdoors: I would like to believe they have usage statistics broken down by age group... I hope...
