We're a British Indonesian couple currently based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia but exploring the UK for a few months. We met three years ago when I (Harri) was travelling and kind of haven't been apart since. Obi is a street artist and I'm about to start a masters in cross-cultural and religious studies in Yogya. I hail from near Brighton on the south coast and enjoy nothing more than flailing round the countryside, Obi was born and raised in Yogyakarta, the heart of Javanese culture in Indonesia.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing
Obi has a few street art festivals lined up around the UK so we're hoping to couch surf in each location, meeting people and finding out about the local area! There's a lot of the UK I haven't visite yet so it will be a new experience for both of us.
Musique, films et livres
Harriet: Music - I'm into a mix of things really, mainly disco and ambient. Movies - I like horror. The best thing about Indonesia (or one of) is all the ghost stories that get turned into hilarious horror films. Also 90s teen films have a special place in my heart. Books - Difficult because there are so many, but I think currently both mine and Obi's favourite author is Eka Kurniawan who studied in the city we live in! Obi: Music - I really like the bands Jungle and Metronomy. Movies: Sci fi! Cinema is cheap at home so I like to go every week to let my mind go. Books - Eka Kurniawan's Beauty is a Wound is really special.
Une chose incroyable que j'ai faite
Obi has just finished his first solo exhibition which is pretty amazing! He managed to make a sofa, stain glass window, ceramics, canvases and a mock Ikea catalogue in the space of three months and I don't know how he did it As for me, I think uprooting and running away to Indonesia and managing to make it work is probably the thing I'm most proud of.
Enseigner, apprendre, partager
We'd love to find out more about the areas we'll be visiting and in return we can share about Indonesia, both as a visitor and someone who has grown up there.
Ce que je peux offrir à mes hôtes
We can share tips for travelling around Indonesia and who knows, maybe a bed for the night if you're ever in the area! As we'll be visiting for street art festivals, please come along with us and see what's happening, there will be lots of activities as well as painting. We hope to have interesting conversations and share experiences of people and places.
