Of course you are not obligated to, but the politeness rules wants to have an exchange, and I don't mean just a conversation, which often can not be because one of the two is too busy or tired to coincide by the other, I mean to give me something for the "inconvenience" caused, for example, something typical of you origin country, a bottle of wine, a cheap dinner...
