CURRENT MISSION I'm cycling across the United States and I'm in Iowa and heading south into Missouri. I'll head west from the St. Louis region. ABOUT ME I'm an easy-going, low-key fellow with a thirst for adventure, new places and people. My cross country bike ride is the ultimate expression of who I am right now. PHILOSOPHY My goal in life is to participate, to DIRECTLY experience what it means to be alive. Riding a bike across the country, hiking desert canyons, sharing a fine meal can all be opportunities for deeper insights and meaningful connections. Life is so short. We must live it well.

Music, Movies, and Books
To many to list here, but a recent favorite was The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. I've been a huge fan of Edward Abbey. If you haven't read Desert Solitaire, stop everything and go do it before proceeding with your life. Love all of Mark Twain, especially the more esoteric stuff like #44: The Mysterious Stranger. Janet Fitch's White Oleander affected me deeply. Don't get me going!
One Amazing Thing I've Done
I've climbed the vertical faces of El Capitan and Half Dome in Yosemite Valley, California and gazed into the icy depths of Canadian glaciers. I've ridden my fully loaded bike into the bottom of Death Valley all alone into a winter sunset. I've read great literature beside crystal clear streams. I've seen a student from a poor, immigrant labor family graduate from college.
