About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travelling around Europe

ABOUT ME

I'm an easy going independent sort of guy. I have a wide variety of interests and I enjoy intelligent conversation.

I'm currently travelling around Europe. I lived in Germany many years ago, so I'm visiting friends from NZ, Germany and France on my trip. I am gay and I was just in Cologne at the gay games. I have never been to Paris and I will spend a weekend there before heading back to Australia and New Zealand. I have heard Paris is a wonderful place to visit. Unfortunately my French is not that great, but it would be great to have an opportunity to practise.

PHILOSOPHY

I think we all have different paths to follow in life and that relationships are more important than money. Helping and encouraging one another to achieve our individual goals is important to me. I don't have time for discrimination or denigration. Life is too short for conflict.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have just joined this community. At the moment I am travelling around Europe. When I get back home, I will be renovating the bathroom in my 3 bedroom house, so I can host visitors in Auckland, the city of sails.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This is my first time

Interests

Tennis, swiming, hiking, gardening, sewing, reading, movies. I studied mechanical engineering, so science and maths interest me. But I am also interested in politics, religion and economics. In NZ we have a "do it yourself" culture, so I'm interested in trying new things, creating new things and repairing things that would otherwise be thrown away.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently saw "A single man" It was truely depressing, but an excellent movie. Colin Firth was at his best and there was plenty of eye candy besides. Two favourite movies are "A love to hide" and "Atonement"

I like pop music. I like artists like Adam Lambert, Pink, Celene Dion, Snow Patrol, Robbie Williams. From time to time I sing karaoke too.

Books I have read recently have been focused on the Spanish civil war, Napolean's invasion of Russia and the fall of the 3rd Reich. Otherwise I like to read science fiction. I just finished reading "Dune" for the first time.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think the most amazing thing I have done is to cross Arthur's Pass on foot. After two days of hiking for 10 and 11 hours, I was able to eat lunch at the top of the pass and look back across New Zealand's Southern Alps. I think very few people in NZ have seen that sight. It was spectacular. Unfortunately my camera could not do it justice.

Teach, Learn, Share

I try not to judge a book by its cover. It is our experiences in life, good and bad, which shape us, and not everyone gets the same opportunities. So I try to remember that with each new person I meet, in order to understand them.
