About Me

I'm not organised enough to have a mission

Looking for a couch? I might be able to help for a couple of nights. If you are planning to be in the Lakes area get in touch if I can help your trip in any other way.

Me? .... sociable (talkative!), curious, adventurous, spontaneous, loyal, values driven. If you know Myers-Briggs, I'm ENFP and true to type!

I love: dancing - salsa, tango, Argentine folklore; being in the outdoors: cycling, climbing, surfing, hiking.... meeting new people, learning new things; bird-watching (I know - geek); lazy sundays; watching movies; snowy mountains; good company; language; doing stuff that makes me feel alive...

I can appear quite serious, but I have hidden shallows!

Came back this year from living in Buenos Aires, where I spent around 3 years, including some time exploring other S.A countries and working in Brazil. Trying to work out what and where the next chapter of life will be about. Life before that: 20 years as a Project Manager and Learning and Development Consultant, working with organisations, professionals and directly with disadvantaged/excluded young people.

Home in the UK is Kendal, a small but fabulous town near the beautiful Lake District National Park.

Oh - and the name Ithaca comes from a favourite poem: http://www.poetry-chaikhana.com/C/CavafyConsta/Ithaca.htm

people and experiences are more important than things. Change is inevitable, growth is optional...choose wisely!

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I've been a member since May 2010, stayed with a couple of folks but not yet been in a position to host. CS gave me a great group of friends in Brasilia who truly embodied the CS spirit. I've been lucky to surf a couple of times. Looking forward to being in a position to host one day.

Saved me from the streets in Buenos Aires and given me some great friends.

Music, Movies & Books

Movie and music tastes are pretty eclectic; depending on my mood, arty and intelligent or easily digested froth, especially of the sci-fi variety!

Authors - I don't read as much as I should, but when I do, I like well-written novels....John Irving, Jonathan Coe, Rose Tremain, Alice Walker for example

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Einstein said ´there are two ways to live; one is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is´

....I´m only allowed to pick one amazing thing? that´s not a rule I can live with!!!!

Diving with whale sharks...fire-walking....trekking in the Himalaya....knowing that my work has changed someone´s life....too many sunsets to mention....the small things that make me smile everyday....achieving some of my dreams

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd be happy to share from my professional experience...personal development and team dynamics theory, eg, MBTI, NLP, Belbin - that kind of stuff. Always happy to exchange language skills.
