About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to cope with megalomania, to overcome feelings of inferiority

ABOUT ME

I grew up in a small historic town near the Dutch boarder. After managing to escape the narrowness of small-town life and a short career as a DIY market worker i enrolled in Economics.

During my studies i spend almost 1 1/2 Years in Russia (Moscow and St.Petersburg). Most people either hate or love this country. I chosed the latter one.. :)

Currently im doing a Masters Degree in Economics at Humboldt-University of Berlin.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I did a lot of CS a couple of years ago, and now decided to engage again in CS.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My CS experiences are like people in general- diversified and colourful. Some of them were great, met really wonderful people, some were so-so, and some .... well ;)

Interests

The world and everything in it.

Ok, that might sound somewhat arbitrary, but actually it's true. There are really only a few things i could think of, id never like to find out more about. It's a general thing. I don't like the idea of hierachies concerning culture, the arts and knowledge in general. I can enjoy gorgeous street graffiti as much as a Renaissance painting. A world literature novel might be as exciting to me as a well drawn comic.

What i am particularly interested in, is Russia.
Since i went there for the first time in 2006, i'm really into Russican culture and arts. I like the pre-revolutionary stuff like Dostoyevsky, Tolstoj, Repin, the Russian Avantgarde and Soviet Culture, but i'm also trying to keep track of contemporary trends. Some time ago i started a blog:

www.hyperboreanfrontier.com

Besides this im really into sports (doing the half marathon), and boxing in particular. Hope this is not going to discourage you to get to know me ;). I'm a friendly guy, i just love this sport for it's mixture of speed and agility and its physical and psychological intensity. Simply beautiful.

Music, Movies & Books

Movies : 2001 Space Odyssey, Fargo ( Coen brothers in general), all kinds of gangster movies ( Goodfellas, Godfather, Casino, Scarface), Blade Runner, Citizen Kane, The Shawshank Redemption, Soviet Stuff like Andrej Tarkowsky or Eisenstein, Sergio Leone Western, Steve Mcqueen, documentary films, contemporary Russian cinema

Music: That's very hard. Music has to be like good food. I probably enjoy any kind of cuisine, it just has to be cooked with devotion and some know-how.

Books: James Joyce, Charles Bukowski , Wladimir Kaminer, Ambrose Bierce, Mordillo, Dostojewski, Gogol, Wladimir Sorokin, Hemingway and other sophisticated stuff that looks good in the bookshelf ;)

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Well, that must be a Russian student's hostel i lived in.
