22. Recently graduate|architecture. Future uncertain.
I have spent the last four years learning about prior styles, periods, cityscapes and genres of architecture. I have fretted over what is or is not necessary to successful draw and inevitably construct a building...
But the most comical aspect of it all is that after all the textbooks, the articles from hihgly-esteemed critics, the lectures on iconic monuments/lavish plazas/picturesque facades....I am still a stranger to it all. It is all just an intricate postcard to me. For I am an American, born and raised. And although this does not need to be a negative attribute, I unfortunately admit to fitting certain steriotypes which make people from other countries cringe.
I only speak one language(English), I live a fast-paced life and am stressed when someone or something attempts to slow me down; But worst of all, I have never left this country!(aside for Canada)...
But the first step towards recovery is admitting one has a problem, right? I want to SEE these buildings, these cities, these environments with my own two eyes. I hope to experience different cultures, from food to everyday life. Who knows, maybe I'll even speak another language by the end of all this.
