Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Not dying in the process of biking to the west coast.

ABOUT ME

In a nutshell? A nerd with a penchant for diving into things for which I'm fairly ill-prepared. (I could probably say more here, but I'm on a time-limited library computer as I write this.)

I don't have a self-portrait at the moment (I will soon), so please pardon my use of the beer duck. In real life, I resemble an exceedingly plain 140-pound white guy.

PHILOSOPHY

My current philosophy is something like this: our abstract beliefs and ideas about the world and how it works (Democrat? Republican? scientist? conspiracy theorist? religious?) are more or less irrelevant to who we really are. What matters is just how you treat the people you encounter. A person can therefore be either a cool, good person (and I believe this is how the vast majority of normal people are), or a jerk. When you are a jerk, you are polluting the psychic soup (morphic field) we all live in and share in our entire lives. Try not to pollute the soup.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment, I'm participating by trying to score couch space, seeing as how I'm on a bike tour :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haz none yet.

Intereses

I don't have time to edit this right now, so I'm just going to write freely.

I'm into computers, bikes, books, film/TV, space, science, spirituality, sociology, electronic dance music, audio engineering, comics, etc. I know that's pretty broad. I'm on a bike tour across the USA right now -- my first, actually -- starting in Boston, and ending...somewhere on the West Coast (exactly where hasn't been fully decided). In my previous life (that is, when not on leave to bike for months on end), I was a web developer. I try to meditate every day, although this touring thing has really messed up my regimen, and I find out-of-body experiences and astral projection are absolutely, irresistibly, unabashedly fascinating. I'm into Star Trek, especially those TNG episodes where the Enterprise encounters a bizarre space anomaly, and plan to visit Riverside, Iowa -- future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk -- on my tour. I'm an aspiring bass player (since early 2013, and I actually practice) and love virtually anything with a funky edge to it: it absolutely, positively does not mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. I used to be a bedroom DJ, playing house, techno, trance etc., but that has (cross)faded into making my own tunes from time to time.

Música, películas y libros

Just about any underground electronic dance music, save dubstep, which I rather dislike. Snobbery notwithstanding, I swoon for funky butt-shaking basslines in any genre. (I'm the kind of guy who sincerely goes to a club to dance, which is also why I've been deliberately avoiding that scene for years.) I like fun movies with some sort of idea at their core, and I will never cease to enjoy clearly-written, entertaining, interesting books from which I can truly learn something.
