About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet awesome people, to go to awesome places, and to have a great time.

ABOUT ME

I'm from Cincinnati, Ohio. I like it there, but can't seem to stay too long without becoming overwhelmed by an incredible wanderlust. I lived in New York City for a few years. I wrote books there and the people at my school wrote books, and we read each other's books, and now we're all unpublished and in debt. The debt hindered my travels for a bit. I moved back to Ohio. I worked at a Whole Foods. Then, I packed up and moved to Prague with my lovely girlfriend, Noa. I got a TEFL certificate, met some great people, and had a sweet time in Prague. Now, I'm planning on moving back to the states, but I will do a little wandering first. I enjoy playing music, especially with people, telling stories, writing stories, hearing stories, and accumulating exciting life experiences that becomes more stories to be told. I also like old films and most other forms of art. I get along with basically anyone, whether you're calm, collected and organized, or wild, crazy and unpredictable. I might be somewhere in the middle. I'm perfectly fine spending a week reading a book quietly or spending a week meandering through the streets in drunken haze. I am very respectful, regardless. I enjoy good food and drink, and I love animals. I often have to retreat and spend time in the woods, but after a while, I have to return to a large city. So, in the end, I try to stay balanced and to get along with people. I'm not a fan of confrontation or aggression, and especially not of overly authoritative figures. I'm not much of a sports kind of guy, but I'm a swimmer, and I'll take you on in a game of ping-pong or shuffleboard or any other parlor room game. It's about having a good time and meeting like minds.

PHILOSOPHY

The world is everything that is the case.

Music, Movies, and Books

James Joyce. I've read every word the man wrote. Working through Proust now. I like Modernists novels that are daunting and difficult, because they shake me and confound me. Donald Barthleme. Beckett. Melville. Lem. Cortazar. Tolstoy. Flaubert. Blanchot. Markson. O'Brien. I used to work at a bookstore, so my library is my most prized possession.

Music-Bowie. There's more, of course, but is there really?

Movies-Too many, so many. Criterion Collection makes the world a better place for me. Bergman. Fellini. Tarkovsky. Ghostbusters. Always Sunny. Too many, so many. Film.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen a tree grow. These eyes o' mine.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach English as a second language as my job now, but I assume you know English if you're reading this. I can teach music to a degree. I can certainly talk for days about books, music, and movies. I can also teach creative writing, and I love to read people's work.

I am a learner by trade, so if you have something to teach, I will learn.
