About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel often, meet new people, be healthy, have fun doing so... simple enough, right?

ABOUT ME

I'm laid back, yet spontaneous.. always looking to go somewhere new and have new experiences. I spend a lot of my time working on my business and most of my free time is spent at concerts, running, hiking, driving/working on my Subaru, cooking up awesome vegan foods, playing guitar, hitting the gym, skateboarding, or simply hanging out with cool people! I make my own schedule, so if I get invited to go or try something new, I probably will. I don't really know what I want to do with my life, besides be successful, happy, travel, meet new people and have new experiences. I do know that I don't want to waste away in an office building somewhere, while life passes by. Life is too short and our planet is too large and full of potentially exciting experiences for that type of lifestyle.

There's no way I can fit everything about me in this little box! Feel free to contact me on Facebook so we can get to know each other better: http://www.facebook.com/alexbartel

Also, it'd be really awesome if you 'liked' my Facebook business page: http://www.facebook.com/affinitibrokerage =)

PHILOSOPHY

So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. -Christopher McCandless

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed a few times, but mostly hosted. I also try to go to as many local CS meetups as possible. I will be traveling a lot more in the near future! :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've traveled quite a bit, but normally stayed in hotels or resorts. I've found my most memorable experiences have been outside of those places. This is why I'm here.. I'd like to meet real people, make friends all over the world, and see everything I possibly can. I've hosted AND surfed a few times and all were excellent experiences! I really love the CouchSurfing community and making friends all over the world.

Interests

Traveling (obviously), music, movies, plant-based eating, hiking, running, auto racing, skateboarding, snowboarding, live music, video games, comedy (Louis CK, Mitch Hedberg, Carlin), technology, animals..

Music, Movies & Books

I'm very passionate about music and love many different styles.. My favorites are nine inch nails, deftones, Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst, Atmosphere, Brand New, Thrice, Atreyu, Tool, Modest Mouse, Smashing Pumpkins..

Movies: Clerks, A Bronx Tale, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Oldboy, The Beach, Almost Famous, Spirited Away, Into The Wild, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, American Psycho, Stay, Empire Records, Scott Pilgrim... so many more.

I don't watch much TV, but I do love Dexter, The Walking Dead, Shameless, Californication, and anything on [adult swim].

Books: Rules of Attraction, In Defense of Food, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Quitter, Mob Rules, musician's biographies.. and maps.. lots of maps. :)

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Recently I climbed the Florence Cathedral & Brunelleschi's Dome to a breathtaking view of the city and countryside. I also hiked to the summit of Annacapri -- 1900ft high view of both gulfs of Napoli and Salerno! I had some really cool experiences at the Mayan Ruins in Mexico.. I also woke up one morning and decided to drive to Canada to check out Niagara Falls and Toronto. Last October, I made a solo CouchSurfing trip to the Pacific North West and had an amazing time exploring Seattle, Portland, and putting my feet in the Pacific for the first time!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach anyone how to play guitar.. and probably introduce you to some really awesome movies or music you might not have seen or heard before.. and maybe even show you some cool places in Delaware (yes, there might be one or two). I also know how to make some pretty awesome vegan foods!
