ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Apeldoorn, but am now already living for almost 10yrs in the nice medieval city of Deventer. I am doing my phd at the moment in amsterdam and have to travel every day back and forth, but luckily still find the time to enjoy life next to work!

That is also immidiately my motto: I work to life and not I life to work. It is all about having fun in life and meeting/seeing new things! We are so lucky that we are able to travel to world and witness all the great things that are out there, that actually one lifetime is not enough... therefore life live to the max :-D

I really can enjoy the nature, just the small things already can make me happy. Like a colourfull bug underneath a stone, or a bird just flying where ever it wants to go. Also I like to party, dance, go out and have fun! History is also one of my favorite subjects, I love to go to musea!
And last but certainly not least, lately I found a new hobby in climbing! Sadly enough we just have inside climbing halls here in holland, but I really would like to check out how climbing is in real mountains!

PHILOSOPHY

Enjoy the ride while you're still on it! That is my current philosophy. Life is to short to spend it sitting in front of the TV, go out and do things! :-D

Interesses

music:
ranging from classic to metal. I have a very wide taste and really love to go to concerts and festivals!

People:
I love to hear the stories of people, how and where they grew up, what they do, how they stand in life etc.

climbing:
a hobby just discovered, but I do love indoor-climbing! And I hope to have my first outdoor climbing experience soon! As there are no mountains in Holland, I guess I have to travel somewhere else... ;-)

Sailing:
I just feel at home at the water. Since I was introduced to sailing (over 15yrs ago), I try to go every year again at least twice.

traveling:
To meet new people, to have new experiences, to see new places, to witness new cultures... I love it!

Manu Chao, System of a down, Vivaldi, Pendulum, Kontrust, The Eels, Cat Stevens, Sepultura, The Smashing Pumpkins, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, The Cranberries, Apocalyptica, Rolling Stones, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Mumford and sons, Rage against the machine, Tenacious D etc. etc.

Books:
Mostly fantasy, I love the books from:
Tad Williams, Robert R. Jordan, Tolkien, Raymond E. Feist, Trudi Canavan, George RR. Martin, James Clemens etc.

TV:
I barely watch tv, life outside is just so much more fun!

To much to tell here!

But just an example of a small thing which is just beautifull in my eyes. I decided to skip a festival (just was not in the mood anymore) and went blanco to germany to end up in Monschau. I was sitting next to a little mountain-creek where suddenly a shower of fireflies started... They came in mass tumbling down in to the river. I sat there for hours!

An example of meeting locals: In The Gambia I met a local with whom I travelled around for one day. I asked him, after a few beer in the evening: "Aren't you annoyed by all the tourist that come here with there fancy clothes, expensive watches flashing all their richness?" He answered: "No, look at their faces... we have nothing, but the more people own, the less they laugh. At least I have my smile and that is enough."
