About Me

ABOUT ME

hi! I am a student taking some time for personal travel before I go to Florence for a study abroad experience. I am extremely laid back, even more open-minded, easy to get along with, and very polite (i will clean up after myself, and then some!). Truly up for anything and everything, hoping to have some wildly spontaneous times as well as some luscious, relaxing days. I am a student at University of Michigan in the US, entering my final year in the fall. I am studying art & design, with a focus in print and drawing. I would definitely like to see some nightlife, but I am equally as content going to see wonderful museums and sitting having coffee all afternoon. This is going to be my first time in Europe, and my first time traveling alone, so I am really looking forward to some life-changing experiences and am hoping there will be fantastic people I meet along the way. thanks :)

Interests

i love to make art whenever I can - it's all I do for school, and I find it takes up a crazy amount of my free time. I specialize in ink drawings and silkscreen, lithography and intaglio/relief printmaking. My work is mostly based on personal experience, but this past year I've been delving more and more into political commentary, especially with the upcoming campaign season in the states. when i'm not doing art i love to read, i could drink coffee all day long, take walks, and every once in a while i love to just veg out and relax. i can also be pretty outdoorsy, if you catch me in the right mood - i do a little surfing in my hometown in California, and in the winter i snowboard. all fun stuff!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

one of the most emotionally intensive things I have ever done was teaching art workshops in prisons in Detroit. I worked for a men's maximum security as well as the only women's facility in the state for the last year, and can't wait to go back and continue teaching. my time spent with the inmates gave me invaluable perspective on my own life. i forged bonds with them that were both touching and heartbreaking, and it reminded me everyday of the power of simple human connection.

the most amazing thing i have ever seen were the ocean caves I got to see in hawaii. they were so massive, and the water inside them so blue, it was breathtaking and reminded me just how great the forces of nature are. i also saw Hearst Castle, and i loved imagining the laborers building it up, detail by detail, all those decades and decades ago.
