About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Manage to teach some English to my collège kids. That's not really creative, but that's some mission!

ABOUT ME

To start with, we are a couple! What could our friends say about us? Well, of course they could say that Lydia and I (Alexandre) are open-minded, generous, and so on... The most shrewd things though would be that we are always interested in discovering new places, new types of food, new cultures, and cultural events. We love sharing experiences and good moments with persons.

PHILOSOPHY

Come on!... I guess our philosophy is not to bother ourselves too much with philosophy!
More seriously, the one that pops into our heads right now is a basic but efficient one: "Don't do to others what you don't want others to do to you."

Interests

As I wrote above, we are a couple really interested in discovering new places, new types of food, new cultures, and cultural events.
Of course, we love traveling.
During our free time we also love reading, watching TV (when there's something interesting on it!) or movies, dancing (especially Salsa) and I myself also like to play a bit of video games from time to times.
Lydia likes going to the gym and I play badminton with my colleagues.

Music, Movies, and Books

Man, that's a tough one.
Lydia is more rock/pop music oriented.
I like pretty much every kind of music... except maybe jazz when it's not live music or when it's not from New Orleans!
We read a lot, but our most influential books would be "The World According to Garp" from John Irving, "Le Deuxième Sexe" from Simone de Beauvoir, "On the Road" from Kerouac, "The Sun also Rises" from Hemingway, "Lord of the Rings" from Tolkien, "1984" from G. Orwell, books form Bourdieu, and so on, and so on...
Movies? Well "Le Patient Anglais", "the Hours", the Pianist, Lord of the rings (again!), Amen, the Horse Whisperer, Intouchables, etc.
A lot of series as well, such as How I Met your Mother, Friends, Treme, The Wire, The Sopranos, Desperate Housewives, the shield for me and Gossip Girl for Lydia.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Carnival in New Orleans.
-Sunset with friends on Calton Hill, Edinburgh.
-Rain on a burning hot pavement, generating an instant and unreal mist under a wide blue sky in Barcelona.
-Ayers Rock in Australia!
-Last but not least, a Chassagne-Montrachet married to a dish of brill in Reims.
-I almost forgot : an Ardberg Corryvrekan Scotch in one of Paris best cocktail bars...

Teach, Learn, Share

Special knowledge? Well, I'am an english teacher, so that would be something people could benefit from. Lydia is a French as a Second Language teacher, so that would be another one.
Also I start to learn about wine. I don't know much yet and I am really still a beginner, but I would be able to teach a couple of things to persons who really don't know anything about it (same for Scotch).
Oh yeah: I'm fond of US history. I'm neither an open book about it nor an expert, but I know a couple of things that people could maybe learn from me...
I also am a bit of an handyman at times, and Lydia knows how to cook very well. Not sure if that's the kind of information we're supposed to write in this space...
