About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My best experiences travelling were usually connected to meeting people (and the little adventures that come attached - I am in Armenia writing this and got invited to some guy's private Zoo today, to give a very recent example). I might be able to get something similar even without leaving my home -which is a great prospect.

I am a curious person, so I am interested in literally everything - honestly. Trying to be a bit more specific, I try to read whenever my time allows (fiction, history and biographies being my favourite topics). I like to travel and I have gotten into photography lately. I love electronic music (a relic from my partying time in Berlin where I also did a little DJing and production - both quite unsuccessfully but with a lot of passion). I used to be into movies a lot but I didn't really have the time to pursue this further the last couple of years. That being said, I at least try to be at the Berlinale each year because I love the atmosphere.

Music, Movies, and Books

Long lists. But since this usually is a very effective way of describing a person I give it a try ...

Books: The old man and the sea, the Great Gatsby, Travels with Herodotus by Ryszard Kapuściński, Schuld by Ferdinand von Schirach, Factotum by Bukowski. I am still struggling with seven pillars of wisdom but I feel this is a book I should like

Music: electronic music (ranging from oldschool electro to, yes I admit, trance, stuff from the Kompakt label from the early 2000s, almost everything from the OstgutTon label), 80s synth pop, Joy Division and New Order, everything by Brad Mehldau

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I quit my job and took a year off, moved to Saint Petersburg to learn Russian, the language of my grandmother. Burnt all my money but came back a little wiser (and more curious)
