About Me
CURRENT MISSION
no mission, just bumbling through life I think...
ABOUT ME
Hey, I am Alex - a guy in his twenties muddling his way through life, one challenge at a time. I have just quit a job in London, England so I can do a Masters degree up in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have also just completed a 7312km solo cycle from the Arctic to the Adriatic for charity.
PHILOSOPHY
To live life to the full I recommend you try everything twice.
Don't shy away from any situation or opportunity as you never know what might be round the corner. Maybe nothing, maybe the love of your life or maybe an amazing story to tell your grandchildren one day.
Travel is the best lesson and the appreciation you will gain for the world will have a positive impact on the future of the planet.
Travel light - the most important things you need are in your head and heart, not on your back.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I got into couchsurfing for the first time while on the big cycle tour mentioned above. Absolutely loved it, especially using the similar website - Warmshowers. Considering the amazing hospitality I have received, I cannot wait to get hosting myself! I am looking to host up in Edinburgh but cannot confirm whether I will be able to do so or not until I am properly settled and find somewhere to live.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have stayed with countless hosts across Europe, from Finland to Croatia. I have just been shocked at just how kind people can be to absolute strangers. It's awesome! I have hosted a few times when in London but look forward to doing a lot more up in Edinburgh.
Interests
I like most things but not goat's cheese or daytime TV. Obviously, travel is quite up there. I admit I tend to buy clothes from charity shops in order to save up and spend my money on holidays, breaks or adventures. Hypocritically, I am also very very keen on the issues around climate change and I am too aware that my travelling lifestyle is very unsustainable for the world we live in. I adore sport although don't actually play that much of it. Just cycling, ultimate frisbee and running are my main pursuits. I am also a keen juggler - I hope to become a street performer one day. And, at the end of the day, nothing beats a good deep conversation at 3am over a glass or three of scotch...

Music, Movies, and Books
Watched the Grand Budapest Hotel the other day - great film! I'm only just getting into films and books because I tend to feel bad if I am not doing sport, learning or earning money. I love all music and above all, the atmosphere of live music. So, take me to a festival or a gig no matter how quirky or random and I will be one happy man.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
To be honest, one of the most amazing things I have ever done was be a volunteer for the London 2012 Olympics. It was awesome.
Cycling solo from Kirkenes, Norway to Split, Croatia was pretty sweet too. Read about it, and more about me on the blog - 61things.com.
