About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to have seen, heard and tasted as much of Spain as can be seen, heard and tasted in thirty days

ABOUT ME

I am an English teacher living in Spain. Though teaching is my job, it is not my main concern. I am a musician by education though not by profession. When I am not working I am trying to satisfy my various interests. Reading things, looking at things, watching things and tasting things (usually food) are what I mostly do, and to a lesser extent playing things and writing things. I have aspirations to all creativity and merely seek a spring off which to bounce my brain.

PHILOSOPHY

I am in an endless struggle with boredom and sterility. For me, joy can only come from the unexpected. That means constantly changing my surroundings, habits, attitudes, interests and ideas. Madness and melancholy come from standing still.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As a curious person I will participate in anything, no matter how bizarre or strange, unusual or seemingly scary. People are a wild and varied group and the blurry lines between them are always worth a look.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This is my first attempt to see some things and meet some people on Couchsurfing.

Interests

Art. (I could list everything I am interested in but if it can come under that heading, I’m probably interested in it.)
Food. I am not going to pretend that food should go under ‘art.’ Sometimes it can but I rarely experience that kind of food. I am interested in the different ways in which people feed themselves all over the world. So, I cook and I eat.
People. Meeting different types of people, watching who I connect with and who I don’t. Drinking and eating with friends (old or new) is my favourite activity. I’m not so into clubs, purely because they bore me. I’m no dancer and that’s what clubs are for.

Music, Movies, and Books

Far too many to list so a few favourites.
Films: There Will Be Blood, Reqiuem for a Dream, The Elephant Man
Music: Jazz (old and new), Bob Dylan (old and new), and almost everything else, though I admit to a tendency towards old stuff. The only music I woud definitively say I don’t like is dance music, but only because the places where it’s heard are the places I don’t like.
Books: I came to Spain as a cliché and brought On The Road. I have a fondness for the beats but somehow I always come back to TS Eliot.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach English and some musical intruments (guitar, piano, saxophone), I am learning to speak Spanish and to become a useful person. I can share knowledge and experience about food and fitness.
