About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a social worker in New York City. The mission of my organization is to make child welfare system policy informed by families who've been involved in the system, who we consider the experts. Social justice work is very important to me and I participate in lots of forms of activism, both related to and un-related to my job. I also obviously love to travel and enjoy meeting people from all over- that's one of the reasons why I love living in NYC so much, because it's so diverse, not to mention fun to explore and feel like a tourist in myself sometimes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently trying to convince my sister (who is also my roommate) to let us host surfers in our new apartment. Hopefully after my next trip (5 weeks from Paris-Rome, from Oct-Nov 2011), I will have wonderful stories about the lovely people who let me surf their couches, and she will be more willing to allow me to give back!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had wonderful experiences couch-surfing through this site in Panama City and Boston. I've hosted many people, but informally- people I've hosted have included a friend I met on a plane, and someone I met on the sidewalk on my lunch break. I love showing tourists around New York City- I always feel like I am seeing it for the first time by seeing it through others' eyes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Recently? The "occupation" on Wall St- very inspiring to see so many people come together to demand change!

Teach, Learn, Share

-I used to teach English as a Second Language, so I'm very interested in grammar and vocabulary and you can ask me all the questions you want about it!
-I taught piano for a few years, so if anyone has any music theory questions, feel free to ask
-I just generally like to hear, and share, what guidebooks can't tell us about places and people
