About Me

I'm an American artist from the Midwest, but I love to interact with all sorts of people. Travel has let me do that! And I hope to keep doing that. I really love the way that culture and art shapes not only an individual, but a culture. I keep my eyes open for new things, I try to ask questions, and ultimately just try to connect with people and the world around myself. I'm an open book, and am always around to listen. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think the thing I love most about Couchsurfing and travel in general is the opportunity to experience a world apart. If you're able to travel to a new place, it's still somewhere brand new and wonderful. You get to step into this world that might be mundane to the inhabitants, but to you it is something more magical. Couchsurfing and meeting people also gives you the chance to see how another person experiences that world, or that area. And I think that's an amazing thing when people can share space with one another and simply experience something. And even when not hosting or staying anywhere, I am happy to use Couchsurfing for meet ups and things. It's still a great experience.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love musicals. The unique way a story is told through song and dance. I've seen a lot of ones in English of course, with a favorite of mine being Falsettos, but I also love seeing musicals in different languages and countries. My favorite non-English one is the French one, "Mozart L'Opera Rock" which is like a rock opera for Mozart. I love it! There's even a Japanese soundtrack of it because it looks like it was performed there too. As for movies and things, I don't watch a lot D: And books? I do need to read more. But the ones I do read would mostly be about psychology or other topics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I turned eighteen I had booked a trip to Vancouver by myself for a few days. I went, I loved it, and I experienced a lot. The significance for me was just that I was such a shy teenager and child, I always wanted to travel but would get cold feet. After a while, I finally decided to jump for it, and went. And since then, I'm pretty good at solo trips, or meeting people in new places. So it might not be that amazing, but to me it was! Another answer is that I was in the newspaper recently along with the tattoo shop I'm at when they were doing a story on my mentor. Proud of him!

Teach, Learn, Share

Art is something I love, as is language, and I can share that without problem. When I meet people new to the US or even the neighborhood, I'm quick to say hello and make sure they are comfortable and having a positive experience. I share and teach what I can, but also enjoy taking a student role and learning from others as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When I used to travel with family, I was always eager to do the more exciting things or go to exciting places, I don't often get thrilled to see all of the usual tourist spots -- so with a host, along with good conversation and sharing of experience, I hope I can make their time with myself fun and special as well. With anybody! I would never force a person, but I'm usually eager to suggest things to do or have a plan, and am always eager to do it with others. It's more fun that way!
