Sobre mí

Where to start?

I grew up in Illinois where my climbing passion began with climbing to the tops of backyard trees with hardware store rope and a weightlifting belt as my first "harness".

When my father took me to see mountains in the North Cascades of Washington state for the first time I was hooked.

After my first two years of college I transferred to Spokane Washington where I completed my teaching degree and took on nearly every adrenaline and mountain related sport there was at the time. Between working full time at FedEx Ground and my classes I was: white water kayaking and rafting, downhill and cross country mountain biking, rock and ice climbing, back country skiing, alpine climbing and winter camping... etc. I worked at the local gear store Mountain Gear and was constantly out in the mountains with staff and some locally sponsored athletes.

Before graduating I completed a 24 day ski-mountaineering guide training course in Haines Alaska as well as a 10 day Wilderness First Responder course, and was hooked on Alaska.

That next May when I graduated I got a job teaching high school special education for the Mat-Su Valley School District and proceeded to teach at high school for the next three years and work as a mountain guide during the summers for Alaska Mountain Guides Int. in Skagway Alaska.

After three years of teaching I then transitioned to behavioral health work where I worked at various residential treatment centers for children through teenagers until more or less burning out (of behavioral health) 5 years later.

In 2013 I had moved to the Washington D.C. area to be closer to family on the east coast and was working as a Juvenile Counselor with the Department of Corrections and the non-profit Hearts and Homes for Youth.

Then after so many years of stressful work in behavioral health I reached my tipping point and quit my job and moved to a place I had dreamed of living for over 10 years, Boulder Colorado.

Without any particular plans I worked odd jobs at: Sprouts Farmers, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Jimmy Johns before finding my dream job as a Program Facilitator (rock climbing instructor) at Movement Climbing & Fitness Boulder.

Which more or less brings me to current day with a few step in between.

A few months ago I spent five months re-connecting with my dad in San Antonio Texas and working as a grill cook.

I then moved to Alaska for the season to pick back up working as a mountain guide for Alaska Mountain Guides Int. in Skagway Alaska where I will be until Septmeber 30th when I fly back to Colorado and begin work at the newly constructed Movement Climbing & Fitness Denver as well as working as a prep/expo cook some where in the city. (I am also currently working at the amazing Thia restaurant StarFire in Skagway AK).

Intereses

Over the last few years I have cooking & learning new cuisines has become a way of life and passion for me. I cook almost every day, often Mexican inspired taco dishes (I make home made corn and flour tortillas).

Minimalism. (check out theminimalist.com - I met them recently :) and their website was a catalyst for change years ago) Literally changed my life over the last 4-5 years. When I first drove from Spokane Washington to Anchorage Alaska my car was filled to the brim with clothes, rock/ice climbing, kayaking, camping, mountain biking...gear and now my entire life's possessions fit into a medium size travel bag and a trail running pack (I ship my minimal rack of rock climbing gear when I travel).
