About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live and let live or die :D

ABOUT ME

This is your regular couch potato here. I have recently moved away into a small town called Goražde on the banks of the Drina river. I can talk and talk for ages and usually get along splendidly with people who can do the same, provided we have the same interests. If we don't, then I might be apprehensive and just shut up.

PHILOSOPHY

I tend to seek to my life's purpose in this world as I do no believe in another one. Moreover, I am very much disgusted by bigotry. If you are going to go on and on about how a certain (non)religious, ethnic, sexual or other social group annoys you, then I am no good company for you. This is a particular disclaimer for our fellow Balkan people -- I am sick of war stories, and I just won't listen to how a certain ethnic group should perish because of your individual suffering. I also do not consider myself belonging or not belonging to any of the Balkan nations -- I consider all of them to be common heritage we can all enjoy. It is therefore pointless to start these tiresome "us and them" conversations with me. I am also not the one to talk to about politics, even if I sometimes may break that rule myself. My point of view is somewhat further in the left spectrum and I would like the world ideally to be resembling the ideals of Anarcho-syndicalism. I am also critical of organised religion, but I do not have to discuss such matters at all, and even if you are at odds with my opinions, we don't really have to go into them as long as you respect me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can currently not host on a regular basis due to my job, but may be free for a weekend or so.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had been on this page before, but never hosted anyone through it. When I was at university, I would host a few people and mostly it was a positive experience. The only thing that I would point out as being a problem was hosting people who are not necessarily the couch potato type as I am. So, if you are an adventurous person and seek the thrill of throwing yourself into a wild current while wrestling with a bear, I am not really into that. Nor am I into camping out for days, digging up holes or pretty much anything that involves physical strength. I do like urban tourism, and since I live near Sarajevo, I would prefer activites such as going to bars, museums, art shows and a fine film.

I've been over at friends' homes who had Couch Surfers, and I was pretty appalled about how some of them abused my friends as just a random stop on the way to a more interesting location. They would be there, often in pairs, talking in their local language while scribbling on a map and ignoring us, only replying if we insisted to talk to them. This is so lame (for lack of a more fitting and insulting word) and makes you a douchebag! Needless to say that I will not hesitate to punish such rudeness with throwing your fine self out of my home. I know that it sometimes is really hard to be in sync with your host and it even might be boring sometimes, but then please make me aware of it so we can work something out. I _can_ be flexible, but so should you, especially since you are getting a bed and a nice meal for free. In the past, I enjoyed cooking a pasta dish or even something of the local cuisine. Restaurants are very few and not that good in this town, but even those can be arranged.

Teach, Learn, Share

Nothing to teach yet... other than:

Choose your surfers/hosts wisely! Don't go and stay with people just because you need a place to stay -- or if you do it, then just be honest about it! Say: "Hey, I would like to go to a concert in your town and then just spend 1h with you having coffee and use your bed." Don't make people expect things from you that you know can't be delivered.
