Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed only in New York City yet and were very positive experiences!
I have hosted before and I must say it was a great experience however brief. But it really made me regain my trust in strangers and made me happy to still be able to believe in goodness, kindness and real interhuman connection. This is the main reason why I have my door open for people and why I want to surf myself.

My interests... uhmm .. Traveling ofcourse.. social critical topics, history, spirituality. Anything that moves people, influences people, connects people..

Music, Movies, and Books

At this moment Im reading a book about the history of Africa. Dating thousands of years back, very interesting and makes me contemplate about human nature. Also reading a book "Vita" about Italian migrants coming to New York in the early 19th century.
Musicwise Im trying new stuff at the moment. Engange with classical masterpieces and opera. Very beginner... But I like a lot, mostly pop, R&B, latin, but def open to be introduced to something entirely unknown to me!
Films.. What not :D ... Well scary movies not so much anymore, used to though. Adventure, SciFi, Drama, Thriller, bring it on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Totally unexpected I had the opportunity to be present at a shaman ceremony in French Guyana. We were taken from Surinam to French Guyana.. We crossed the border over water hidden under a blanket in a small wooden boat under the falling darkness of the night.
The ceremony was to honour and guide a passed shaman to the here-after. Could be that it was somekind of toeristy scam that I totally fell for. But I didn't have to give anyone any money, I didn't get robbed. . So in the spirit of couchsurfing I trust these people to have been genuine and wanted to share their believes with others. The flames of the fire circles combined with the sound of the drums and the elder shaman lined up and chanting made this an unreal but beautiful experience.

Talks about everything and nothing. I can go clubbing with you but with the same love make you a home cooked meal and stay in with a beer..
Like loads of things.
I might bring some Dutch stroopwafels, candy or chocolate... If I can fit them into my bag :P
