When people get smarter, things get better.
After saving up for a number of years, I've finally allocated enough moneys to start feeding my wanderlust. I'm thrilled at the prospect and meeting new friends, exploring new and different cultures, and more-or-less gathering more of that unique life experience that comes from traveling around. I'm a bit of an odd ball, and I spend most of my time in the states alternating between various writing projects (prose, playwriting, comics, and hip-hop lyrics mostly) and my line of work, which involves working with persons with mental disabilities.
This summer I intend to combine these two things, spending time working with some families with Autistic children and attempting to tour the continent with my somewhat bizarre Hip-Hop project.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm looking to couchsurf around Europe this summer, but I don't want something for nothing. I'm trying to book small rap shows in people's living rooms. So if you host me, expect a unique and entertaining experience!
I have a B.A. in English, so writing is a big one. The two biggest ones that I've really honed to a state of decent quality are playwriting and rap, but I also dabble in fiction and graphic noveling.
I'm a music geek, I love to collect records and DJ at parties when called upon to do so. I'm also a voracious reader, and my primary literary interests are science-fiction, African-American lit, and books about social theory.
When I'm not performing, writing, or reading a book, I like a nice night at home with some snobby craft beers, while I fire-up Netflix and watch Doctor Who/ Farscape/ Breaking Bad/ sketch comedy/ or some combination of intellectual, weird, or funny.

Music, Movies, and Books
I am a voracious consumer of culture, so I'll just have to mention some of my absolute favorite things.
My taste in movies is diverse. Sometimes I'm in the mood for an intellectually stimulating independent film (Koyannisqatsi, Man on Wire, etc.). Sometimes I just want to watch a Hobo With a Shotgun. Of note, my absolute favorites are The Big Lebowski, The Dark Knight, Terminator 2, Nosferatu, Metropolis, Coffee and Cigarettes, 2046, Small Town Gay Bar, Rashomon, Eraserhead, The Blues Brothers, Freaks, Duck Soup, Robocop, Dead Alive, Creepshow, Hellraiser, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Idiocracy, Blazing Saddles, Evil Dead 2, Taxi Driver, The Howling, Dr. Strangelove, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, An American Werewolf in London, Planet of the Apes, Labyrinth, Brazil, Beetlejuice, Shock Corridor, Jacob's Ladder, Groundhog Day, Muppet Treasure Island, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Fear of a Black Hat, Outland, SLC Punk, The Seventh Seal, Black Dynamite, Mystery Train, Jurassic Park, Heavy Metal, Heavy Metal in Baghdad, The Last Dragon, They Live, Session 9, Attack the Block, Hardware, Bronson, God Bless America, Natural Born Killers, and the best bad movie of all time The Room (oh, Hi Mark)
Again, too many to list. But I have a particular emphasis on Hip-Hop, along with electro-pop and new wave music (I DJ a show at my local college radio station called ELECTRO-POP THERAPY). Some of my all time favorites include Electric Six, Peter Gabriel, Public Enemy, the Wu-Tang Clan, Wesley Willis, K-Os, The Roots, Brite Futures, Daft Punk, Justice, Chromeo, Boys Noize, Awolnation, Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Kavinsky, The Fugees, Parliament, Childish Gambino, Abdullah Ibrahim, Alison Moyet, Frankmusik, Little Boots, the Spin Doctors, Iron Maiden, Negativland, Living Color, Fishbone, The Postal Service, CSNY, Sigur Ros, Rage Against the Machine, Example, Genesis, The Wallflowers, Hudson Mohawke, Frank Zappa, El-P, Digital Underground, Descendents, Buddy Holly, Mastodon, Protest the Hero, and too much other stuff...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Well, I don't know how amazing this is, but it's unique. I'm in a band called Sista Mista where I dress in drag and pretend to an angry British lesbian who raps about outer space and social injustice. Kind of a weird hybrid of Doctor Who, Public Enemy, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Oh, also, we opened for one of my favorite bands ever, the Electric Six! That was my ultimate rock star moment.
People tell me I work well with autistic kids and the mentally disabled, and I love it. Helping people makes me happy.
Also, I went to Rock the Bells 2007, which was the best Hip-Hop concert that ever happened or ever will happen. Immortal Technique. Jedi Mind Tricks. EPMD. Mos Def. Talib Kweli. The Roots. Public Enemy. Cypress Hill. The Wu-Tang Clan. And it closed out with a reunion performance from Rage Against the Machine. So yeah, that was awesome!
