About Me

Go nomad.

Hello CouchSurfers, I'm Anka, from Poland.

I can't stay too long in one place. I guess I haven't found my place yet, so I keep looking.

I'm an architect who one day decided that going freelance gives more opportunities in life, so I switched to service design, mostly graphic and UI/UX. I'm trying to find a way of joining traveling and working. And I'm not saying WWOOF or similar - I want to develop my career in design.

I'm a hitchhiker, most of the time a solo traveler. I like to push my boundaries, experiment and try new things. The concept of living off the grid fascinates me. I'm in the process of giving away or selling my possessions, quitting my responsibilities and setting of for a long-term travel.

I think that the most important thing in life is to remain faithful to what you believe in, and to try to make your dreams come true. I also believe in destiny, whatever happens to you, happened to you because of a reason.

I grew up in a family where freedom was much more important than money or stability. My mother would hitchhike with 5-years-old me, or my father would quit his job without hesitation just to take us all for a long vacation in a converted van.

The good old punk rock DIY philosophy is also important to me. If I can, I'd rather make something with my hands than simply buy it. I like creating and recycling things.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I host, I surf. I've been on the road, so I understand how important it is sometimes to have someone out there, waiting for you. I started by hosting people in my flat in Wroclaw, Poland (since 2008). Then I started surfing, and I got addicted to it. I can't imagine traveling without CouchSurfing any more. I'm also a member of Global Free Loaders, Trust Roots and Hospitality Club.

I hosted travelers from all over the world, and it has always been an inspiring experience. I surfed couches in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. And I loved it. Whenerver I have a chance, I try to join CS meetings, meet some of you, see old friends. The more I am into CouchSurfing, the more my experiences vary, but most of them are still very positive.

In life, I'm interested in living off-the-grid, self-sufficiency, survivalism. I'm also very into creating: design, photography, DIY. I grew up listening to punk rock and still find it fascinating. I'm curious about the world, cultures and religions. In my spare time I love reading good, ambitious literature and play RPG and boardgames.

Music, Movies & Books

Movies: lately, that would be 'Melancholia' by Lars von Trier Music: The Cure's 'Disintegration' Books: 'Ender's Game' by Orson Scott Card and more

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Here used to be a world map with all the countries I've been to marked. Somehow I can't upload it on new CS website, so look for the image in my profile pictures.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have some knowledge of budget traveling 'cause it looks like I always travel on a shoestring. I'd love to share it with you.

You can take me for a dumpster-dive in your city :)
