Starting April 6th, 2011; I will be driving across the US to head back to school in Toronto
I'm a fun loving adventerer. It seems since I took on the wild plan to become a midwife my life has become especially adventurous and in the past 3 years I've lived in Sudbury, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Nelson and Cumberland for different courses or clinical placements. I have also been driving across Canada for the past three years and I am about to take off on another cross country journey through the states for the first time and also by myself for the first time. Very exciting indeed.
I'm a bit of an optimist, sometimes to the extreme but I'm also an avid problem solver. I'm a little too curious for my own good sometimes so wherever I go I always seem to shake things up by asking questions. Life too short to regret the past but it's long enough that we can learn from our mistakes and accomplishments.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've just started but I imagine I'll first participate by staying at some folks places on my trip from Victoria to Toronto.
I love to host though so once I have a place to live with a couch I will be stoked to have people come and stay!
I was hanging out with the friend who referred me to CS and she had two dutch men come stay with her for the night. They had brought some horns and we sat around the house for a jam with trumpet, cornet, guitar, acordian. It was a super fun time and made me want to join!
There's lots of things I dig including cooking, hiking, snowboarding, dancing, laughing, swimming, camping, cross country skiing, rock climbing, soccer, thrift store finds, working with women and babies, driving, karaoke, sewing, treeplanting and hanging in the sunlight. I'm pretty low maintenance and enjoy the company of others almost as much as I enjoy my own company. I often get made fun of because everytime I live in a new place I say "this is the best place ever! I could so live here!" But I guess I'm just good at making the best of all sorts of circumstances.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I recently helped to deliver the baby of my sister-in-law. I'd attended around 40 or 50 births already but to catch the baby of someone I love and have known my whole life was a whole different ball game. It was both terrifying and one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm always eager to share my midwifery knowledge about women's health and reproduction but it's not always what people want to know. The process to me is so normal now that I can be a bit graphic and not realize it. So how about Ashtanga Yoga?
I studied to be a yoga teacher a few years back and I love the way doing yoga regularly makes me feel. Ashtanga yoga links breath with movement with each alternative pose being a down pose, alternating with an up pose. On the down poses you breathe out and on the up poses you breath in, it's almost like you are under water. The basis of this style of yoga is variations on the sun salutation(Surya Namaskar A and B). It's good fun, try it!
