About Me

Hey there!

I'm a Dutch born wannabe-wandered who currently lives in central London, enjoying the vibrancy and surprises a foreign city tends to throw at newcomers.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

One of the things this city offers me and which I find to be one of its best characteristics, is the variety of people one can encounter within a day, whether it is a difference in age, nationality or background, anything seems possible. I'm extremely eager when it comes to absorbing all those fascinating differences and stories, and hope via this website to encounter even more of those.

Interests

The course I'm currently studying reflects perfectly what I am interested in for the most part; reading, theatre, acting and most forms of artistic expressions (writing, dancing, drawing). In winter I love to snowboard, and ofcourse travelling had to be on this list as well! (Next on my list is discovering more countries in Eastern Europe, such as Bosnië and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Russia and Poland!)

Music, Movies, and Books

One of my favorite books is 'The discovery of Heaven' by a Dutch writer called Harry Mulisch, and another all-time favorite is Beckett's 'Waiting for Godot', and 'Happy Days' (I'm extremely interested in absurdist theatre, consequently also taking a huge interest in Harold Pinter, a man who together with Beckett forms the core of this movement within theatre history).

When it comes to music, I find it really hard to point out a favorite, since it always seems to be changing, but currently I'm really into artists such as Grimes, Sufjan Stevens, Eisley and Radiohead. I am an ardent flute player in my freetime, so classical music is definitely part of my favorites (ranging from contemporaries such as Satie, or even more recent Ludovico Einaudi and Yann Tiersen, to Mozart, Shostakovich and Stravinski).

Favorite movie: Amélie, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (French art-house movie about a young adoloscent female that tries to help out the people around her as good as she can, all the while set in charming Paris)
Another extremely weird but awesome one: Mulholland Drive, directed by David Lynch
And last: The Piano Teacher, directed by Michael Haneke

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to a festival in Budapest, Hungary called Sziget! I can highly recommend it:)
