About Me

to learn what life is like for other people on the planet; become an internationally important sculptor; climb mountains.

I like traveling more than anything, also climbing mountains and anything outdoors and difficult. I like to learn new things. I'm self-employed as an artist. I need a lot of sleep and I don't drink caffeine. Also vegetarian. I love to meet people and share stories. I also like to dance. I like animals of all kinds and grew up with many pets, though I have been too poor and itinerant thus far as an adult to have any of my own.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I am always interested in meeting new people and in providing a place to crash when I have one. I travel a lot and am always trying to build connections.
I am not happy about CS becoming a corporation. I still don't see why they couldn't stay a non-profit, and it seems like a lame excuse to say that it was "too hard." I'm not against people being paid for their work, I'm against some people being paid a lot for other people's work. It seems like the gentrification of Couchsurfing. That said, I believe in the concept that started CS and I have continued to meet great friends through it.

I have had mostly great experiences with Couchsurfers. There are a lot of people on here who are open and interested in sharing. Thanks!
I just have to be prepared that things won't necessarily start on time, but that's no biggie.

I love the theatre, and my favorite place to see it is in London.

Music, Movies & Books

Always up to watch DEFA films (from East Germany) if I can get my hands on them.

I'm listening to a fabulous book called "Abendland" which touches on just about every issue of german-speaking identity, with some of America thrown in there too. If it were translated into English I would be sharing it with all my family and friends. I also read a lot of climbing/mountaineering literature, like Touching the Void, Kiss or Kill, Climbing Free. On my list right now are: Annapurna: a Woman's Place, The Architects (a Stefan Heym novel about East Germany published in English in the west), and Russen Disko.

I would always be happy to see Balkan Beat Box when they come around. On car rides I'm usually listening to 70s or 80s pop, David Bowie, early 90s indy rock, or sometimes some Bach or Bulgarian Women's Choir.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I've Hiked the Annapurna Circuit, the Inca Trail and the Tour du Mont Blanc.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always improving my climbing skills, rope management and glacier mountaineering. Also, traveling in grizzly bear country.
I know a lot about figure sculpture, hiking/backpacking, and how to live well without much money. Also can speak Spanish and German.
I love to cook.
