Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To spend more time experimenting with cooking, listening to music and playing soccer (sounds so simple but difficult to accomplish as a graduate student)

ABOUT ME

Food is one of the most important things to me - I love trying and cooking new things... but healthy things. Chocolate is a staple in my life...especially the 70% kind - and yes, I still consider this healthy. I enjoy playing sports, especially soccer but really, I'm up for anything - rock climbing is another interest of mind although it's been a while since I've climbed outside a gym. I'm definitely an outdoorsy person - done a few outward bound trips and loved them, in fact the greatest trip of my life was 14 day canoe trip in Temagami, Ontario. When it comes to relationships, I've found that gender is not really important for me - if I click with the person, then that's what counts. So I consider myself a part of the queer community - I'm interested in women and men. As for personality, I'd say I'm pretty analytically minded and always ready to listen and learn of different perspective to my own. I'm also a pretty reflexive person, do a lot of thinking but still very driven. Other than that, I would say I have a special interest in helping and advocating for those who have had a tough go and live in a system that works against them.

PHILOSOPHY

Think of differences as an opportunity to learn.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Having only just joined, I can only talk about what I hope to do. So! Although I don't currently have a couch, I'm definitely up for coffee/drinks with anyone who's interested - I very much appreciate good chats. I'm heading back to Toronto in the next few months. If I have enough space, I'll definitely change my status and offer my couch! In the meantime, I hope to meet up with other CSr's at local events as I have yet to meet many people in the community. Looking forward to all of it!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Although they weren't "official" CS experiences (i.e. before I knew about this project), I did a lot of surfing when I was in South Africa three years ago with people I met through connections. While there I had the chance to stay with people from three different cultures - English, Afrikaans, adn Tswana - what an amazing contrast in terms food eaten, perceptions of what to do to entertain the guest, view of politics, and feelings about safety. Most memorable experience was being introduced to my Tswana host's grandmother after she had just gotten out of the bath - stark naked and happy to meet me!

Algo increíble que he hecho

Seeing the Southern coast of Africa while hanging beneath a parachute.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I've got some great cheap, easy and healthy recipes that I can tell you about - a say 'tell' because they're all in my head: curry apricot hummus, almond butter granola bars, apricot lentil soup, watermelon and mint salad.
I'd like to polish up on my French skills - so the opportunity to chat with a french speaking person that is willing to critique me as I go, would be awesome!
