About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experience the world more fully.

ABOUT ME

I am a writer, sometime musician, sometime filmmaker, constant adventurer. I'm 20 years old and a little reserved sometimes, but actually make friends easily. My favorite thing in life is other people and their stories. I really believe that everyone has something worthwhile to say, and I'm a good listener who's always down for conversation. My favorite thing to do is seek spontaneous adventure -- an impromptu road trip or party with strangers I met on the bus. I'm extremely laid back and low maintenance, and my humor is sarcastic and sometimes lacks boundaries, and once I get to know I'm not afraid of a lively debate, during which you may catch me swearing like a sailor but I'm never offended if you ask me to tone it down. :)

PHILOSOPHY

"Seek simplicity, and distrust it" -Alfred North Whitehead

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't travel too often but am hoping to change that and want to take more short trips to new places and surf for a night or two. I can't host right now because my roommate isn't comfortable with it, but I'm trying hard to change his mind and in the meantime am definitely down to hang out/tour guide people in my city!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Brand new to the site, can't wait to fill this out more!

Interests

I spend my time writing, it's what I do for a living. I mostly write poetry and short stories but have recently sold my first screenplay. I also write songs and sing; I love music and used to perform onstage doing musical theater for a living. Other than that I am a huge film buff, and when I do go outside (it happens!) I love biking, hiking, and kayaking. Things I love to do but am bad at include gardening, cooking, and photography. I'm also kind of an art/history nerd and have to see museums in every new city -- don't go with me, I'm super boring once I'm in. I get inspired to write by people watching in unusual places and the first thing I do in a new city is find the best place, be it a bar, coffee shop, park, or street corner, where it seems like people make friends and share stories easily. What really makes my life engaging is other people. I love new friends, heated discussions, and unexpected adventure!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing thing I've ever seen is not exactly one moment, but the period of several weeks where I first saw my city, New Orleans. It was, as you might guess, shortly after Hurricane Katrina and I made my way down to help rebuild. TO summarize my experience, all I can say is that I arrived to a city in complete shambles but left knowing that it was my home and determined to always end up back there.

Another moment in my life that left me awestruck was when I ran into an old friend I used to sing with in Memphis when we were both only passing through there for a day, and I was singing acapella on the street for some cash and after stopping to talk, he ran to his car for his guitar and a man sitting on the curb near us heard the conversation and offered his services as a drummer (he had sticks and a crate from a bar) and we ended up forming an impromptu band for several hours.
