About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To continue down my path to personal spiritual freedom and happiness

ABOUT ME

I have been a college and university student on-and-off since the late 90s, and attending the so-called "university of life" since, well, the day I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland.

My academic focus throughout the years has ranged from peace and conflict studies, anthropology, and to earth and life sciences, such as geology and biogeography.

As a member of generation X, I wander, but am anything but lost. I have lived a very full and spiritually rewarding life, and wish to keep doing it.

My interests lie in freedom from all aspects of slavery, including addiction, and suffering rooted in conflict, both inward and outward.

I have studied conflict resolution with someone who studied alongside Vinoba Bhave, a spiritual successor of Mohandas Gandhi. And my path of self-exploration has led me to cross paths with other well-known doers in the peace and justice community, such as the late whistle blower, Michael C. Ruppert and author Paul Levy.

I also have also gained a deep appreciation for healthy food and living, and have strong interests in non-violent communities and ways of creative and peaceful ways of responding to economic injustice, which is one of the main reasons I do media.

I can tend to be on the introverted side, but I also tend to relate with mostly anyone. I value quiet time and am not a huge fan of the party culture, including cigarettes and alcohol.

I am currently looking for couches to surf on in the Minneapolis area, while I get back on my feet, and gather strength.

PHILOSOPHY

We are the universe becoming conscious of itself.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been involved with what I refer to as spiritual activism for about fifteen years, and increasingly so in the last three-four years.

I have a few YouTube channels mostly dedicated to raising awareness in uplifting and educational ways about issues relating to social change and what it means to be human ape-gods.

I am also increasingly involved in with peacebuilding between Israel and Palestine.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had many years of couch surfing experience, on-and-off since my teens. It's not necessarily my ideal choice, but sometimes it is necessary.

Interests

My interests are learning about the world; breaking patterns of violence, including those rooted in language, and communication (i.e. see: 'The Four Agreements', by Miguel Ángel Ruiz); reading, writing, and researching; filming and photography; being in nature; music - both playing and listening - with taste ranging from ambient / electronic, to socially conscious hip-hop, to folk, and to modern classical

Some of my favorite films from more recent to older include:

"Cloud Atlas", "21 Years a Slave", "Into the Wild", "Sophie Scholl", "Goodwill Hunting", "Fight Club", "Down by Law","Inherit the Wind"

Some of my favorite musicians include:

Yann Tiersen, Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi, Rachel's, Matthew Cooper (a.k.a. Eluvium), Stars of the Lid, Beirut, Eric Satie, Lisa Gerrard & Dead Can Dance, Sigur Rós, Arvo Pärt, Badly Drawn Boy, Sinéad O'Connor, Lowkey, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Future Sound of London, James Blackshaw

Favorite books include:

"The Four Agreements", by Don Miguel Ruiz, "Dispelling Wetiko", by Paul Levy, "A Short History of Nearly Everything", by Bill Bryson, "A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail", by Bill Bryson, "The Culture of Make Believe", by Derrick Jensen, "In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts", by Dr. Gabor Maté, plus too many more to list here

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It depends on how one defines "amazing". I have watch birds fly everyday, which to me can be amazing.

I have also attended the court hearing of a high profile individual who was once considered to be the most famous man alive for a role he played in journalism.

Going back to my place of birth, in Edinburgh after having been gone for nearly 37 years was also amazing to me.

Teach, Learn, Share

As I have already indicated, I have led a very full life and gained profound insight and wisdom along the way.

So far, one of the most important insights is that words are spells. One of the ways people are programmed to be who they are, do what they do, and believe in their reality is through words and language. As spiritual beings we have a strong potential to shift our personal realities in any way we so choose, by exploring the ways in which we have been programmed through words.

That's one bit of insight and wisdom I can share here.
