Join Couchsurfing to see Arthur’s full profile.
Hi there! I am an adventurer from Iceland. I love traveling, making new friends and experiencing our beautiful world in as many ways as possible. I am a self-employed author and a poet. Writing is my biggest passion in life, but I’m also an entrepreneur. My life’s motto is to have as much freedom as possible.
I am very social and open-minded. And I have more hobbies than I can count, which enables me to have deep and meaningful conversations with almost everybody I encounter. I joined Couchsurfing in January 2019 so I’m kind of new to this whole thing. It’s a wonderful platform!
I speak Icelandic, English and German quite fluently. I love language learning as it opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the zealous student. There are few things that bring me more delight than communicating with locals in their native tongue and seeing their countenances beam with joy in response.
My complete CS profile used to be 3000+ words haha – but I decided to shorten it a bit, lest people fall asleep while reading. Brief is better here, although the motto "more is more" tends to apply to my life in almost every regard. If you are bored or happend to feel like reading my bio in its entirety, just let me know and I will send it to you.
I am interested in all sorts of things, chief among which are spirituality, traveling, writing, language learning, hiking and physical activity (preferably a bit adrenaline-boosting).
I’m also a peaceful personality, taking joy in savoring a cup of coffee on a serene summer’s morning or just having a stroll out in nature. My favorite sports are bodybuilding, skiing and hiking.
I am already a famous writer in Iceland. Upon the publication of my first two books of poetry—which I self-published—I started getting known until eventually almost everybody in my country learned about my work by virtue of media coverage in newspapers, radio and, most recently, national TV. I'm not trying to brag in any way. What I'm implying is that if you have a passion, it can manifest in the real-world. It can make the leap from the idea-stage to an actual tangible result in terms of fruition. Thus was the case with me always desiring to be known for my art; my beautiful rhymed poetry in which I firmly believed. I believed it, and myself as an artist, had potential while everybody else in my life exept from god, thought I was unrealistic. Well, now I'm a living prove that dreams can come true. In December 2018 and in November 2019, I released my first and second poetry book respectively. I'm currently dabbling in novel writing as well. But my principal aim for this winter, is to successfully compose and publish my third poetry book which will be named "The Element." If you are interested in learned more about my personality and passions, I highly recommend checking out my latest TV interview which originally aired on national TV in Iceland. But for the benefit of all my foreign friends, I added English subs to it and uploaded it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axRHUt_WlhY&t=337s
On August 15 I'll arrive in Denmark with a ferry. I have a three-month long road trip planned. A solo road trip. Just me and my car – hence the ferry. It will be wonderful to have the opportunity to explore Europe with a car. I plan on spending some time with friends in Germany but besides that I leave it mostly up to kismet to arrange my travel plans and send pleasant surprises my way. I plan on Couchsurfing as much as possible!
On November 7 I go back to dark and dreary Iceland, the home-country I'm ever trying to escape from, but during my stay on mainland Europe I'll have ample opportunity to make good memorize AND get adequate sunlight.
Looking forward to staying with you – whoever you are reading this!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
When I discovered Couchsurfing in January 2019 I leaped out with joy! This is a day I shall never forget. I was so excited that I literally jumped on my bedroom floor and almost shed tears of happiness. I had been thinking how awful it is to travel without getting to know authentic people and make real friends. I feared the only way to make life-long friends might be to enroll at a university or sign up for a new job. These options both take time and they would both hinder my plans of travelling the world as a self-employed writer. Furthermore, I figured the only way to socialize abroad would be at hostels, bars, etc. and none of these options suit me well either.
Then a sudden hunch entered my mind… wait I’ve heard of a website haven’t I? A site that lets you stay with other people…? What was the name again? And then it struck me: COUCHSURFING! A friend of mine from the US had actually mentioned this a few months back, but it hadn’t registered in my mind at the time. I immediately started researching the internet to learn more about Couchsurfing and the more I read, the more I realized this is my dream come true. This is answer to my prayers! I’m writing these words the next day.
- personal development
- healthy lifestyle
- stock trading
- conspiracy theories
- being happy
- astral projection
- taking risks
Music, Movies, and Books
I haven’t read that many popular books, but I’m pretty well-read in the the realm of religion and spirituality. My favorite book is a theological scripture called The Oracles of Celestine Light. I’ve recently started reading the Russian classic ‘The Master and Margarita’ by Mikhail Bulgakov and the American classic ‘The Greatest Salesman in The World’ by Og Mandino. I really like them both. ‘The Da Vince Code’ by Dan Brown was also a great read. I’ve read a couple of Harry Potter books as well and when I was a kid I cherished Donald Duck pocket books more than words can describe.
There are a couple of genres I prefer. They are as follows: Mystery, adventure, action, romance, documentaries, superpowers and magic. Sometimes I like humorous movies, but usually not. ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’ is one I really like. Movies have to be uplifting and exciting for me to like them. I detest movies with dark themes and too much death or violence. I am a peaceful spirit. Hence I don’t watch horror stories. I’ll list my favorite movies below. The worst movie I’ve ever seen is called ‘The Best of Me.’
— Eyes Wide Shut
— The Matrix
— National Treasure
— Wonder Woman
— The Notebook
— Doctor Strange
— Harry Potter
My all-time favorite musician is David Bowie. I’m familiar with most of his albums and I have listened to his songs over and over again. Besides being fond of his famous songs, I love many of his less known gems. My favorite Bowie songs are: Velvet Goldmine, Boss of Me, Did You Ever Have a Dream, Criminal World, Suffragette City, Everyone Says ‘Hi’ and Absolute Beginners.
My musical taste is very diverse and open to adaptation. I like old gems like ‘She’s gone’ by Steelheart. I’m also fond of The Queen. But, besides Bowie, I mostly listen to modern pop music. Uplifting modern pop and rap is like a drug for me when I’m in the gym or simply having a good time or seeking increased motivation. Being the ‘party music guy’ I am, people might think I don’t listen to relaxing music. However, this is not the case. I love serene music as well, like yoga and meditation songs. One of my favorite Spotify playlists is called Deep Focus. And one of my favorite contemporary artists is called Regina Spektor. She composes exceedingly beautiful melodies that she tints with her amazing voice and piano skills. My favorite song by her is ‘The Call’. In regards to classical music, I like Beethoven and Mozart. Upbeat Icelandic music also owns a big place in my heart.
Here are a few of my favorite musicians or bands. Let’s see if we have anything in common!
— David Bowie
— Regina Spektor
— Katy Perry
— Alice Merton
— Jason Derulo
— Major Lazer
— Jax Jones
— Lady Gaga
— Charlie Puth
— David Guetta
— Zara Larson
— Ariana Grande
— Alan Walker
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'll be happy to elaborate on this when we meet. But be prepared – you might not believe the things I've done! One of them shouldn't even be possible, given the laws of physics.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you basic Icelandic. I can show you some awesome Icelandic songs. And I can train you in the art of poetry. We can compose a poem together. More importantly, we'll share some great experiences and hopefully lay the foundations of a lasting friendship.
I can rap for you in German – trust me you'll be surprised and entertained at the same time.
I love learning the ways of other people. You can teach me a couple of phrases in your mother tongue – if it's not a language I know. There’s really nothing I don’t like to learn. I am a very curious soul, ever welcoming opportunities to explore foreign countries, cultures and people. I’m also an open-minded and non-judgmental type of person. No matter how peculiar your ways are, I’ll likely find them of interest.
Disclaimer: As an author, I might use you as an inspiriation for future books, so beware.....!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my most valuable gift: my friendship. I'm also willing to cook my favorite dish for dinner (also the only dish I can cook) which is oatmeal.
