To cross the USA without crashing our rental car, and not having a heart attack from all the burgers we're going to eat!
Hello! We're Jon and Astrid, a couple from the UK currently traveling on a world wide quest of exploration (aka a recession induced gap year).
We like to think of ourselves as friendly folk who enjoy a good chat with whoever wants one. Our aim is to meet lots of new lovely people on our journey, and hopefully make some new friends. We're very interested in YOU and learning about your country/state/town.
Being Geography (Earth Science) graduates we especially like the outdoors and landscapes.
Occasionally we like to practice the art of doing not alot - especially when it involves a movie and some takeaway!
Take advantage of things when you can. Try not to miss any opportunities. Be friendly and people will generally be friendly back! Always make the effort.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Since we're currently "on the road" we'd love to meet lots of lovely people, spread the couchsurfing word/love, and eventually host people ourselves.
My (Jon) cousin has been active in the Couchsurfing world for about 6 months, regularly hosting people from all around the world in his London apartment. He really got me interested in what an interesting project couchsurfing is.
Since traveling we've also come across a few people who are active in the community, including a lovely Canadian fellow who help us cross the Cambodian border into Vietnam without getting lost!
We love going to the cinema and watching DVDs in the comfort of our own homes. Favorite movies included Garden State, Lord of the Rings, Shawshank, and anything by Wes Anderson!
We love to travel - most excited by cool, different and dramatic landscapes (geography geeks). Luckily we have been able to travel around the world to lots of amazing places.
Both big football (soccer) fans and are rather excited about the upcoming World Cup!
We're also very interesting in meeting new people - hopefully you :)

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies (which we both like...): Garden State, LOTR, District 9, anything by Wes Anderson (especially Darjeeling Ltd), Tim Burton and his amazing imagination, Monty Python, Bond... James Bond, indiana Jones, Pixar, Shawshank, Gran Torino, the Naked Gun, Half Nelson, Good Will Hunting.... and MANY more!
Music: Mostly indie rock stuff (Muse, Radiohead, The Killers, The Leaves, Ragina Spektor), but we also love Jazz, Folk (Mumford and Sons are AMAZING!), and occasionally a bit of gospel (Astrid).
Books: Unfortunately we both love Harry Potter, and have done since our youth. Mixed loves really. Jon - recently Cormac McCarthy (The Road), and Steig Larsson have been really good. Astrid - Naomi Naovik, fantasy and general old style English novels (Jane Austin).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Skydiving in New Zealand over the Able Tasman National Park - twas absolutely mind blowingly scary, but so exhilarating and beautiful at the same time.
Jon - also worked up in the Arctic near the North Pole for three months as a research assistant - pretty crazy times were had.
Astrid - 24 hour bus ride from Hanoi in Vietnam to Vientiane in Laos. Bleak... Very bleak...
