About Me

First off I'm really terrible at language so don't think much of the "Languages I'm Learning" section, the only one I might understand a sentence in is Spanish.

Anyway, I'm a young adult still living with their parent in that wonderful cusp of well-off enough to not worry about electricity or food but not well-off enough that I think people who can afford to order from Starbucks must be wizards or some nonsense and, well, I can't afford to live on my own yet. Fun times. So this account may be premature, but it certainly aligns with my interests so here I am anyway.

Sidenote; while near the city, I'm actually in a suburb, but since it's my mom's house and I don't even have a room to myself let alone a couch to spare, I'm going to go ahead and keep exactly where I live to myself 👽👍

So to actually describe myself (everyone's worse online-nightmare), I'm kind of an oddball and my sense of humor can be on the mean side. I'm the type of person who, once I get comfortable around people, will never shut up and am always trying to make everything as fun as possible for everyone but otherwise I'm really reserved and almost never talk. So pretty much a real life Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, except rather than murder I tell rude jokes and try to get everyone to do stupid things.

I'm a fan of all animals including a variety of bugs, which often throws people for a loop given how fond I am for cute things. I love Godzilla and related kaiju and have always adored dinosaurs. I've also always had an affinity for "dark" things, heck, I own a 24 piece encyclopedia of the supernatural. That being said I don't have any religious/supernatural beliefs, but I respect ALL people's beliefs cause it really has nothing to do with me and religious beliefs are by natural not harmful (I view the political aspects as the harmful part, but that might take more explaining than I'm going to put here).

This might be enough of an overview to who I am as a person? About Me sections are the worst part of making any account, congratulations if you've read this far, that's really quite a feat.

Oh yeah, I have a cat that I love more than even my own life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm a broke young person who still holds on the delusions of being able to travel. Also I'd love to meet people from other cultures and get to know more about the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm in a really bad Arctic Monkeys kick right now, though I know half their music sounds the exact same. I love Cage the Elephant and The Fratellis, and I can't tell them apart half the time but I really enjoy The Strokes, The White Stripes, and The Black Keys. Then there's Metric, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mother Mother, and Chvrches. And of course all the emo stuff from the mid 2000s (Three Days Grace, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, etc). The music I grew up with (my mom's music) was all of Tom Petty, one cd of Tracy Chapman, one cd of Bod Dylan, one cd of The Pretenders, one cd of U2, and one cd of John Lennon. In almost 22 years I haven't gotten tired of it so I'm guessing I never will.
Of course there's a bunch of other random stuff but an overview is an overview.

I love Studio Ghibli and other anime movies that capture a similar feeling (immersion maybe? I've had entire conversations with friends over why I like this type of movie and still don't have a good answer). I really like psychological thrillers, slow burn, very weird uncomfortable feeling type of movies. I watch so many documentaries and historical movies, they sustain me. I really adore historical fiction, especially when you can tell a lot of care was put into accuracy. As a giant nerd I like to learn while I'm being entertained, and a good historical fiction lets you pick up on customs and little aspects of daily life of the time period/location without needing to be explained.

Transition into books acquired, since I love historical fiction novels as well. Lisa See is one of my favorite authors overall for her dedication to weaving fact and creativity together to form her novels. In contrast, while Memoirs of a Geisha is still one of my favorite books and I know he did research for it, it feels like he could have done more for a better feeling of authenticity. Alas, I am not a literature critic, just a consumer with opinions. I'm also a fan of historical fiction set in Victorian England, but that's a pretty easy time period to romanticize. Falling Angels is a novel set in that time frame I'm particularly fond of, it has an interesting approach to telling the story. I couldn't possibly not mention in this segment my love of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. I love them. If you care for the plight of the Mock Turtle we will likely get along.

So I'm fairly certain this was just supposed to be lists, but I prefer to do things as I see fit, waste of time as it may be. I am a Start Idiot™

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My perspective on what is "Amazing" in regards to myself has shriveled up. By all means I'm fairly sure I was an exceptional child but growing up with unrealistically high standards put on me and constant and ever increasing self doubt and deprecation has left me with little certainty on my own sense of value. So while I can think of a whole list of things that would be considered "positive", I can't think of anything I could hardly call "Amazing".

And now you've learned I can also be a sad-sac (should I put this in About Me then?) (that was an attempt at a joke) (pity laughs, while not encouraged, are appreciated) (I should not be allowed to babble on the internet)
