About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm generally mission-less. Try to do a little better every day.

ABOUT ME

Friends would say I'm laid back, easy going. Sometimes to a fault (mostly not, though).

PHILOSOPHY

Like a mission, this one is hard. I guess I think one should try to be an active participant in their life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None, really. None through this site anyway. I've often stayed with friends when traveling, and always find it much more enjoyable that staying at hotels.

Interests

Traveling, of course. But also reading and writing--which are kinds of traveling I guess.

I teach English and write poetry in what little spare time I have. Beyond that, I've spent as many pleasant afternoons and weekends playing pick-up soccer as I have spent on long, leisurely walks through Savannah with friends or my girlfriend, talking and stopping in to grab a drink where and when we felt like it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently I'm listening to New Orleans style brass band stuff; stride piano, early jazz, that kind of stuff. Listening too, to a little classic country and some early Springsteen.

What I'm reading now: Bring up the Bodies, a novel set in the world of Henry VIII; also a lot of contemporary American poetry. Summer reading includes 100 Years of Solitude, and David Foster Wallace's last book.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Enough to make the ancients jealous: the cultural treasures of Europe, the rockies, grand canyon. But you come pretty quickly to realize it's not about this.

So, to risk sounding like I spend most of my time in bars (which I don't) I'll say that one "amazing" thing was drinks shared on a hole in the wall on a side street in Vienna. And to balance that, I say another was a lunch of octopus skewers with my brother on a cliff-top restaurant in Greece. Another was walking alone quietly beneath the redwoods in California.
