About Me

CURRENT MISSION

You don´t need a reason to go when there is no reason to stay.

ABOUT ME

"The most beautiful thing in the world is the world itself." (Wallace Stevens)

I´m Benedikt from Berlin and I like to live abroad (so most of the time I´m not in Beriln ;-) I´m so interested in other cultures. I love the differences. And the similarities:
Have you ever wondered why "Ok" or "Hi" are words in every language? Or why you can do "give-me-five" everywhere with everyone? Or why a smiley is universally understood? :-/ :-P ;-) Or why a student from Malaysia loves The Simpsons? Or why a child from Peru knows Heidi and Peter from Switzerland? Or why in every country are about 10% left-handed people - even in Arabia? Or why people from Egyptian can dance the Cuban Cha-cha-cha? Or why almost all girls like the Japanese Hello Kitty? Or why so many men like German cars? Or beer? And why women in every country carry a handbag and love flowers? ...and expect that the man should ask for the number? And why you can see immediately with a look in the fridge whether male or female roommates live there, regardless of from which nations they come? And why everywhere wives have problems with their mother in law...? And why party people all over the world love similar clubbing music such as the French David Guetta or Brazilian Gusttavo Lima? And why for everyone - no matter their native language - British English sounds nicer than American English? And why an old Russian taxi driver listens to Swedish ABBA songs all the time? And why I can find two big Angry Birds soft toys in a bar in Taipei? And why all (!) couchsurfers have a map of the world in the room?

Countries and people are so different - and similar. I love this.

Feel free to contact me.

PS: And why do so many parents call themselves "mum" and "dad" ?!? (I thought only older German people are so strange ;-)

PHILOSOPHY

Life is not the amount of breaths you take. It's moments that take your breath away. (Hitch)
You have made some mistakes and you may not be where you want to be, but that has nothing to do with your future. (Zig Ziglar)
Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end. (unknown)
They did not know it was impossible, so they did it. (Mark Twain)
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing. (George Bernard Shaw)
Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. (Confucius)
If you look into your own heart, and you find nothing wrong there, what is there to worry about? What is there to fear? (Confucius)
Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. (Confucius)
You don´t need a reason to go when there is no reason to stay. (own)

Deng Xiaoping is my hero.
He opened China and has helped almost 1 billion poor people, sometimes dying of hunger, to prosperity. No ideology, just measurable success for the happiness of the people in this world. "It doesn't matter whether a cat is white or black, as long as it catches mice"
It is said that the reforms of Deng Xiaoping brought about the greatest wordwide improvement in social welfare of all time. And after many poor and powerless decades he brought China back on track to become the new superpower.

致富光荣

I wish the former Soviet Union would have changed in this way, instead of falling apart. Then we would have two great strong nations against USA (this dishonest, selfish, short-sighted, brutal, paranoid, unfair country of double standards).

Here a great trailer how booming China is changing the world: "If they have lived through the cultural revolution this means they have gone to hell - and come back."

A song about Shenzhen: “A wise man draws a circle on the map. Like in fairy tales a new city grows. And mountains from gold."

For me the new rise of China is the greatest performance in world history. It´s the eighth wonder of the world - a wonder of humanity.

And for me the European idea is also great.
