One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For a week in 2005 i went to Serbia for the Exit festival. I saw grand architecture in Budapest with the finery of European history etched into its stone. I saw skate-kids with gypsy styling, I saw monochrome pylons tragically alone in the river where NATO bombed the bridges in the 90's. I talked to people and they described their city and were honest about their prejudices and loves. I saw fools gold in the river, the New and the Old Europe collide and then, at 8am in the morning after a wild night at the festival i saw the blue light of dawn over the mighty Danube at Novi Sad and i didn't want to leave.
